  • How to shift a track by *Exactly* 500ms in X3

Hi, I recently added a Yamaha piano with pianocorder to my setup which requires midi to be advanced by 500ms (it has an 1/2 delay that can not be switched off).  I have used Cakewalk for years but could never get the shift I needed for the piano, it only worked in beats/measures which change with every tempo change (ugh).

Now I upgraded to X3 and it seems I still have the same problem, I tried the Time shift in track inspector and I also tried the Nudge process which had an exact time offset (ya!) but unfortunately when a tempo change occurs in my file the timing does not stay at exactly 500ms.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Jmayes

in menu bar 'process' choose 'slide' , you can move the part from there I think/hope...

good luck

If all else fails, have you tried using a delay plugin set to 100% wet/500ms delay?  Just a thought.

I am sure that there is a more elegant solution, but am not at my DAW right now..

Actually that's a pretty elegant solution because the delay will be constant regardless of tempo changes.

I thought so, but it was just off the top of my head.

I thought there may be a setting somewhere that could add the delay, without adding an extra effect.

Anyway, I am pleased that my solution wasn't too off the wall.

Thanks, Craig.

Thank you everybody for the help!!!  I love the plug-in solution and will try it at my first chance at my DAW, I never realized the plug-ins worked on anything other then audio but then again I am coming from CW9.  Will let you know how it works.

Ok, I added the default midi echo/delay plug-in that came with it and it works great but I can not make it 'wet', it plays both the original note and the delayed one, I was finally able to almost get it work by turning down the original velocity and letting the module amplify it which gave me a very soft original note and a louder delayed note, using that config I ran a few songs to see if it would track the tempo changes which it DID!  So if I could just figure out how to get it fully wet I am all set?  Perhaps a plug-in I need to download??

MIDI tracks have a timing offset control, accessed via the Track Inspector. See page 232 in the manual.

As I stated in the first post, I tried that and when there is a tempo change things fall apart.  You can move a track but the tempo changes do not follow.  The delay plug-in route looks the most promising so far unless there is a function we all missed.   Thankx for the suggestion, J

I'm still not clear on why Nudge wasn't suitable. You have the option of setting it for absolute time or musical time.
