Hi guys...not sure where to post this. My Mackie mixer is malfunctioning. I want to downsize & think I will just use an audio interface as a mixer. I'm looking for recommendations.

I need at least guitar & mic in + maybe 1 or 2 more inputs to be safe, USB not firewire, Win 7. That's about it - thank you!!

Can you clarify this? The biggest advantage of any DAW is that it becomes the primary "mixer," but Focusrite's Scarlett line (6i6 and above) come with a MixControl interface that allows for some complex digital routing internal to the box.

I want to use it as an analog mixer to send guitar, mic, maybe drum machine to the DAW. I wd then mix the recordings in the DAW. Thanks for the tip.

You should include what you are willing to spend.

If you only need a stereo in/out, want very high quality and have about $500 to spend I'd recommend the Tascam UH-7000.  Wonderful preamps - no DI but $20 at guitar Center will satisfy that requirement.  Also high latency (the time the drivers take to route the sound in and out of the computer).  No inserts.  But the sound quality is the best you are going to get w/o spending +$1000.

If you are only interested in less expensive units, just about any of the major players should work.  Motu has a new line out as does Tascam (Gibson owns it and Cakewalk).   Roland and Focusrite both have a lot of users here.  Just figure out how many ins you need to record at once and how much you can spend.  Each of the above companies should have similar units at your price point and find the best match.  Then ask here about that unit.

 Anything by Focusrite.
 Steinberg UR22
 Komplete Audio 6

While I'm using soon to be legacy gear, these would be on the list for that price range.

I use a saffirepro 24dsp I have never had a problem with it and it sounds good. They use the same elements that they use in their top line so Mic amp should be smooth and clean.
