I simply am adding a post to this troubling mess in the case someone works it all out, what works, what doesn't.

Windows Workstation, any details/how guide/info on that?

I would start with one of the new AMD Ryzen CPUs and an appropriate motherboard. They don't have the OS-Lock that only allows Windows 10. I'll probably go with a moderate SSD for the OS with applications (512 GB), and then a Raid setup for Data. With an offline image of the OS/app drive, so I can restore that if I need to, I should be good. Of course I didn't list all the parts, 32 GB of RAM perhaps, mid tier video - I won't be playing games, but Ryzen doesn't come with on-board graphics that I know of.

Stop dreamming my friend, your coffee is getting cold. :)

Im just looking for a possible solution to help others.
In situations like this you can either try to be productive and help yourself and others or you can be negative and drag others down with you. I tend to stay positive and help myself and others.

So you are saying we should now believe Cakewalk/Gibson has our back?
Given what I have seen these past few days, it is apparent these people do not have our interest at heart.

I do believe they will offer a fix soon but I'm not waiting around for it. That's what this thread is for.
So im not sure how you came to that conclusion.

I do wish you the best though in what ever you do.
Good luck.

First of all, thanks for yr input, knowledge and passion charlie. I am a novice Plat user and am shocked at the news. Can you tell me if I can do an offline activation for a system I haven't built yet? I'm thinking not from my understanding. thanx Mikl

Unfortunately that is not possible as you need to make an export request from the PC you are trying to register.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. We just have to wait this one out.(until cakewalk hands out some sort of lifetime authorization to users)

I wonder how long we will have to wait.  A simple Yes that a fix is truly forthcoming would be encouraging.

I agree, its the only thing concerning me right now.
I can live with the "No more updates" thing. Sure im upset but I don't mind still using Sonar for years to come but I would like some conformation that I will see an offline authorization.

All I've heard is "IF the servers go down, we will provide you with an off line activation code"

That isn't really good enough for me. If im going to invest anymore time in Sonar I need something solid.

Exactly.  I can see Gibson saying, "Oh by the way, we shut down the servers a few hours ago", and no one had a chance to arrange for getting the activation codes to us. Cue Armageddon....

You do have to wonder what the distribution plan is for alerting users and getting the keys to them. If the servers are shut down, and presumably the forum servers too then just how will this all be done? Do they even know who is left that needs them?

Sadly, I can see this as a possibility. I'm looking at the bright side (no one died) (being facetious)... things do change, etc etc, but truly I think Gibson would not hesitate to inconvenience the User base further if something comes up that's a benefit to them and they had to choose good / bad actions...
