• SONAR
  • Meters Stopped Showing Input Level

Hi
I hope this is an easy one. I've been using X2 on this computer for almost 2 years. I haven't changed the hardware and I haven't changed the settings at all recently, but 2 days ago the input meters in the track view just stopped showing the input level. They seem to work while in PLAY mode but as soon as I hit STOP, the meters go dead.

If I go into Settings and just look around without changing anything, then click OK the meters work again. But after I play and stop, they are gone again. I have a feeling I accidentally hit a random key on the keyboard but I can't figure out what it might be. I sure wish Sonar had a log file that showed you every key you hit over the last hour or so!

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot!
Scott

If you are trying to record audio the track needs to be armed. If you are trying to monitor the input levels the track needs to be armed. Tracks have two modes record and play back for the meters. To use the record meters and be out of playback mode a track has to be armed.

Try shutting down and restarting Sonar...

Sir Les
I had some issues a few months back like this, POSTED, even arming tracks nothing would show up on meters until, I hit play...then everything works...Still got that kind of bug...But my work around seems to solve the problem once done before doing anything in the project I am making while using Sonar X3e on win 8.1.
And if I close out the session, and reopen it, I have to do the same thing again to get the meters showing signs of incoming audio when arming tracks for recording.

So there is something odd with that for me as well, and no one has posted on my thread a solution, now buried in past time of Mur ...So I will follow this posting if you do not mind...Because I think it is a bug, or something is not setup correctly...in Windows for all things to work right....(as usual)....but no one else has the issues we have, as yet in numbers to say it is a Bug, and most probably will never have that status...So it is a select few with it, and we have to solve for it....I guess...?...and then show and tell....wink.

I hate troubleshooting!

Well thank god someone else has seen it!! But I am starting to think it is something in Windows. I'm still in X2 and everything worked fine until a few days ago. At the moment I can't think of a way to trouble shoot this but I actually haven't tried anything except looking at settings yet. As usual, I'm working on a song and when I find the time/energy to sit here and work, the last thing I want to do is spend all that time trouble shooting (I've already spent over an hour trying to fix a keyboard and feel like I wasted that time!).

But what I should do is start a new project, close everything else that's running, maybe do a clean boot, stuff like that. At least this is just annoying and not really affecting functionality. I'm not too picky about a ruined take because I like actually playing and find that if I have to do it again I'll eventually get an even better take anyway.

Sorry I didn't see your thread when I did a search. I will try to take some time and test a few things and post any news I have.

Thanks for the help guys!

Sir Les
Sorry we had a power failure due to ice storm conditions...I was going to link this for you.

.
I still have to press the play or record button to get meter levels showing up with my audio desk solutions, when opening new projects or working on one made.
But once done, I believe so far, until this week, after win updates, I found odd behaviour going on...but before that no issues with Sonar and that audio desk recording or playback once doing that work around, other than the occasional loss of audio device message that seemed to be not true.

I sometimes loose the audio device on rare occasions, it says, but once I close the window on the bottom right saying so, I see no loss or problem with such a warning being presented for that reason...and audio still plays and gets recorded....

Not sure, but I think Sonar for me and thunderbolt 2 using my fire wirer device through it, may be part of my problem.?
And is not widely used by most PC players at this time, as fire wirer is the go to so far for audio or usb, thunderbolt 2 is slowly coming into the now PC platform and Higher ended Audio devices having those ports instilled....eventually it will be addressed somewhere with MS and other apps and third party developers...for me?...and hopefully everyone gets blissful encounters .

Best of luck, Happy new year, and keep fighting for bliss!

Sir Les.
