  • Building Midi Drum Loops - How to delete a note while recording live?

Let's say I'm building up a nice midi drum loop groove using my midi controller (AKAI LPD8) to play the drums. I'm doing this while recording a midi-track in Sound on Sound mode.
The old Akai MPCs had a great button called "Erase" which allowed you to easily erase a midi-note by holding the "erase" button down in conjunction with the note you wanted to erase from within the loop. How does one erase a midi-note while performing live recording without having to stop the recording/playback? Seems this would be an essential function for performing live with the tool.

Thanks

Probably your best option is to record into the step sequencer. There is no "drum machine" mode accessible with the piano roll view, although I think this would be a worthwhile addition.

That's too bad Sonar doesn't have this common feature. In Ableton Live which I'm thinking of switching to, I just saw that I can hold down a key on the keyboard (left arrow) and it will delete any midi notes just like the MPC behavior I described above. Any way we can see this feature in the next update?

Well, the name Ableton Live already gives a hint. The actual composing/tracking DAWs lack many of the features used in live performance, maybe because they are so heavy with features that they are not capable of the swiftness required in live acts (?). I would not count on getting any new live-performance features in SONAR. Looking back, that doesn't seem to fit the SONAR "philosophy".

Good point about the "Live" hint. I don't see SONAR going with the plan to be a live performance tool anytime soon.

Not only the live point, but these midi Pad controllers are meant to be used in a work-flow such that you can turn on and off notes while composing music. I just can't get a good workflow going with this new controller with SONAR yet and it seems I won't be able to unless some of these new features to support them are added.

Hello,
Based on the quote above is it not possible to have a view (screenset?) where either the step sequencer view and piano roll view or track view/piano roll view are both accessible  to work around this like stacked maybe for laptop use? Thanks.
