  • Does the sidechain in Waves Vocal Rider now work in X3?

Hi all

I noticed the Waves Vocal Rider is now down to $79 for a few days

Doing some quick research I found some threads stating that the "side chain" feature of Vocal Rider does not work in Sonar (ie where you feed your backing track mix into Vocal Rider and it rides the vocal accordingly)

The threads I read said that this was because Sonar didn't support VST3 (they referred to 8.5, X1 and X2)

So.... With Sonar X3 now supporting VST3 does this feature now work ?

I am not sure this is a deal breaker as riding the vocal to itself would probably save enough time to allow me to manually automate the whole vocal to the rest of the track but it would be nice to know if Vocal Rider was now "fully featured" in Sonar?

I've been checking it out as well.  I have Sonar X3 and I am trying the demo version right now.  No problems so far.  Consider downloading the demo and trying it out.

I'm still wondering if there is a lower sales price coming up or if this is as good as it gets for a while.

Has anyone seen a better sales deal?

I just bought it. That's the best price I've seen in a while. I'll test it when I get home.

The "advertised" price at Audiodeluxe is $79, but add it to cart and it drops to 70.89 with the current sale.

Thanks guys

I just noticed that Sonar X3c is listed as supporting Sidechain on the Waves website so I assume all is good now

That's another bunch of $$$ to bite the dust!

I use the VST3 version all the time and I'm pretty sure it works just fine....having it write volume automation is so cool it feels like I'm cheating. It's not perfect and I always go in after and adjust by ear, but it's really pretty good.

Have you got at least SONAR Xc (ie Xc, Xd or Xe)

Also, I believe sidechaining is only available in the VST3 version so you will need to make sure you are loading the VST3 version (and not the VST2 version)

I have not used it in SONAR yet but this video should get you on the right lines

I think you basically send your instruments to an "instrument bus" and then send this bus to the sidechain of the Vocal Rider

I hope this helps and good luck

Yeah the sidechain works in X3e
And Boydie is correct, once you add VR to your Vocal track it becomes available as a send for the bus you have routed all your instruments to
