  • Solved: Session Drummer 3 Pattern won't play in track

I'm trying to get familiar with Session Drummer 3 for projects.  I've watched a number of videos and have what I think is a simple problem I can't solve.

1.  I start a new project.
2.  I create a new track by adding Session Drummer 3.
3.  I can load a kit and listen to the patterns within the SD3 interface.  I can hear the pattern play and the level meter bounces in the track
4.  I select a pattern and drag it to the track in my project.
5.  When I attempt to play the pattern in the project track, there is no audio.  There's no activity in the level meter.

What's the difference between playing a pattern within SD3 and playing that same pattern in a track in a project?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You only mention creating one track. I'm guessing this is the synth audio track.
Are you creating a MIDI source track as well?
The pattern must be dragged to a MIDI track.

Thanks, Robert.  I dragged it to the synth track, not the MIDI track.  Putting it in the MIDI track works as advertised.

Would you mind marking this as Answered, or add something like 'Solved' to the first post's subject line?

That helps others to know this was addressed, both for folks looking for solutions, and for those just trying to help folks - so they know they can skip reading through posts since it was successfully worked out.

Thanks - I could make that change for you, but I try to let folks alter things themselves, when possible.  :)

There may be confusion over the difference between a "Simple Instrument Track" and the "Synth Audio output" options. A Simple Instrument Track is a hybrid containing both an audio and MIDI track. Had this been used for SD3, dragging the MIDI loop into the track would have worked. When using one of the three Synth Audio Output options, there needs to be a MIDI source because the Synth Audio Output options are only audio tracks. The reason the loops played inside SD3 but not when dragged to the "synth track" is the synth track was an audio track. SONAR will allow MIDI data to be dropped into an audio track but it will not play.

Bob,
I did what you asked.  Thanks for the help and I'll try to remember to update my solved questions in the future.

Scook,
Thanks for the additional info.  I'm still getting my arms around the Sonar workflow.
