Hi,
when I start up sonar X3e producer, and load my songs, I always have to fix which instruments are loaded on my midi tracks, even though I save them correctly when I closed sonar.
This is a pain in my butt. I have 3 keyboards, foot controller, drum machine, and an akai mpd32. I use lounge lizard, dimensions pro, rapture, overloud kbfx, and other fx's and have to set instruments and channels every time.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Look at the drop-down menu for the midi track output. Does it show any inconsistencies from one session to the next? Do any of the keyboards or other hardware devices appear in the list?

Can you be more precise about what's wrong, and what you do to fix it? For example, is the sequence for, say, track 14 still there, except that you thought you had assigned it to Rapture and the next time you open Sonar, it's assigned to Dimension Pro or something like that? Or are no instruments loaded? Are the instruments loaded randomly, or are they all offset by a particular number of tracks, or...?

I don't recall anyone else reporting a problem like this, so we need to know exactly what's happening.

thanks for the reply,
lets say I load synth lounge lizard: I have track 14 and 15 for it. track 15 is set up in my console view as input is Yamaha keyboard midi channel 1 and the output is lounge lizard. track 14 input is lounge lizard and output is to my bus. track 16 is my foot controller for lizard. input is foot controller midi channel 1 and the output is lounge lizard(to control knobs in the lizard). I save everything and go to bed.

I get up the next day, open my song, and track 15 is now my microkorg midi Omni. track 16, which should be my foot controller is now my akai mpd32 midi channel 1.

I have made project templates with all these type channels and synths already set up to save time, they just never save in the correct order when I open them up in the future.

hope I clarified my question.

Do you by chance happen to change the ports that USB-connected midi controllers are using?

I ask because the way Windows works, it sees the devices differently when the port a given device is plugged into changes, and this does sometimes affect how Sonar 'sees' USB-connected midi devices.

Try to always use the same USB ports for your USB-connected devices.

I have, in the past with older devices, had to actually re-install device drivers just because I had inadvertently changed the port an older audio interface was plugged in to.

Bob,
Thanks for the suggestion. My midisport 8x8 is always plugged into the same usb port into my desktop.
when I go into edit>pref>midi devices all of my keyboards are always in the same ports. ( Yamaha keys = port 1, Korg = port 2, etc.....   those never change )

If there is more than one USB connected MIDI device, this may help http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/1362532

Does your desktop also sleep while sleep?  (that sounds funny, but is a serious question)

If so, some devices don't seem to wake up very well in Windows.  I always configure music computers to stay awake - wide awake, forever - with no selective suspend, min processor state at 100%, and no hard drive shut off.

(I do a shutdown rather than a hibernation/sleep)

Hey,
Thanks for that link scook, that had a lot of good stuff in it. I have done some test and noticed if I start computer first then all my music stuff after I get some mixed up stuff. If I First boot music stuff, then computer, It loads as intended (so far).
Mr Bone
I do have 3 items that are usb devices: Novation remote, Mixer and midisport 8x8. All other items are straight midi.
I did have sleep on but, not to activate till 1 hr of inactivity. I see what you mean though, so I have changed that to never sleep.

I'm going to keep messing with it and see if I can nail it down.

P.s. bob, sorry for being so sour yesterday, I have the flu, and missed Christmas with my family because of it and was really angry. please forgive me.

thanks all for the help.
Mike
