Thanks for the offer, Craig.

Unfortunately, the video is still undergoing edits over in Denver. She'd deleted a bunch of photos in order to shorten the movie to fit the music.

After boldly assuring her that I could put the audio in later, I told her to go ahead and add those photos back in and send me the file at the last minute. I figure that once I've done a successful test here it'll be a quick process. Always the optimist.

All you need Dave is a codec that will allow you to load the video. One place you can get one for this is Shark007 I have use them for many years and they work. http://shark007.net

I actually have those (I'd found an old thread where you had recommended them to someone else).

Curiously, this particular .mov file will not even play in the mPlayer app that comes with the Shark codecs. But it does play in WMP. Wouldn't that suggest that I've already got the necessary codec?

Yes you are, sir! Good luck with it. But I assume with Anderton on the case you'll get it solved. Sheesh worst case scenario you can just ring us all up and we'll do it live! :-)

WMM is about as hassle free as it comes for both imports/exports, but its functionality is limited, so extensive editing to either audio or video is nearly impossible. It will meld the two together fairly nicely (and yields a decent result), but you may have to import the video and do the audio edits in SONAR with both applications open. It has been a while since I have used WMM, but remember the import/export was convenient, just the guts lacked editing capabilities.

As is a collab project, you may want to agree on a timeline so you are both working to the same result (then only "assembly" of video-audio is the issue).

Edit: There are some "video heavies" on this forum that could probably do this task quickly, but would probably need a very close sync of audio and video if you happen to get into a pinch.

ALMOST SUCCESS!

I just had to select the right WMV export options to get the necessary video quality.

Only one problem remains: the video is truncated. The last half of the video is a black screen - but with music. When I look at the preview frame in SONAR, I see the whole thing.

I don't think it's a file-size limit; the exported video is only 479MB.

Thanks, Michael and Michael, for your advice and encouragement.

Well, it looks as though I've finally got a winning combination. I tried another selection from the WMV export options and now have a working slideshow!

Thanks again for everyone's advice and offers of help. You're all invited to the memorial.

Bit, if you run into any more video issues, please contact me. I will be glad to help. I do video for a living and would be able to get past that in no time.

I emphasize picking up a download version of Vegas/Movie Maker or similar  from Sonycreativesoftware.com for hassle free editing and conversions.  There are loads of video tutorials on Youtube and the web and I feel it's one of the most undiscovered programs out there.  It comes in many levels to accommodate most budgets.  That's just my opinion...

Cheers

One big plus with Vegas is it comes with a decent time stretching plugin that helps make things fit without exporting to external editor. I think it's  only available in the pro version. I wouldn't  call Vegas undiscovered. It is hugely popular among the pirate crowd because of its easy to get around security and musicians tend to like it. Even among pros, most non-Mac users know of it even if they choose otherwise. Great program overall.

I like it because what Dubdisciple said plus it supports the Mackie Control. Its the most powerful video editor you can get for the money. To me it fits nicely with Sonar. Also you can get Sound forge with it.
