Hi all,

I have recorded a song first with acoustic guitar and singing on one track for reference but not against the tempo clock, just free style like tape, no click. This is the best way I know to get started as I can play and sing and stay "groovy" on time.

I then recorded my electronic drum kit playing along recording only midi (so I can split notes to tracks and other edits later).
However, while I can drum, this is a tad sloppy and I would like to lock the midi events to the acoustic guitar transients.

Is that possible?

Thanks.

Yes. You need to open audiosnap on the acoustic guitar audio. Tidy up the clip (trim and apply) if required, make sure the clip map is correct (Use the clip map editor in audiosnap) and then set the project tempo from the clip. There are three resolutions to choose from - beat, measure, and clip.

These are the points at which Sonar will adjust the tempo map. Measure is probably the best compromise.

Yes it is possible and there are a few way's to do it   basicly you will create a tempo map using either the guitar  track or-
What I do is play along with the guitar track hitting a downbeat using a hi hat and get it close. Convert that into an audio track.  I then use audio snap to draw the tempo map, this is a pour explanation, sorry but I gotta run. Read up on using audio snap or melodyn I guess might work too though I haven't used it yet.

Also consider finding a drum beat that fits your song first. I find it hard to use the metronome too, so I do 80% of my songwriting using simple drum machine type patterns I have saved.

Wow that was easy!

What a good drummer I am now. :-)
Thanks Carl.

Cheers!

No worries Ron, good to see you around again, or have I just missed your posts?

I lurk around a bit here from time to time.
Software dev debug has been my mistress for some time but a rare song idea popped into my head so I had little choice but to stop everything and record it.
