Just because I'm a nerd and care about these things - vaporware is not bad software or software that doesn't do what you want. It's software that keeps being announced for release and postponed but never actually shows up.

That was the first clue that this guy was a troll.  They have a habit of using word more because they sound bad than because they know what they mean.

I was just curious to see if anyone else has had these problems with Sonar X2.

In my latest song, I was getting some great editing and mix work done, then saved the file and quit for the day. The next day, I opened the file back up, and the first thing I noticed is that the track faders on my Tascam FW-1884 were no longer corresponding with the faders in X2 (they worked FINE the day before!). Only the master fader was working right. At first I thought that stupid "Envelope Offset" thing got turned on by accident again (don't get me started on that stupid useless thing!), but it wasn't. The faders WERE working correctly and responding to automation in the software itself, but not on my board. After an hour or so of screwing around with trying to figure out was wrong, I finally thought to try to open the file in X1. Voila -- my board was working again!

Clearly this is a bug. I opened up a previous song that I completed, and the faders won't work in it either. Checked several others, and none of them will work as well.

WHAT THE HECK is going on?

I also might as well bring up that "Envelope Offset" thing anyway: I really resent that feature being implemented -- somehow it got turned on while mixing my last song, and by the time I discovered the cause, the HOURS of mix work I had done got SO screwed up that I ended up having to export all the tracks to audio to be mixed in Pro Tools instead! I was hoping to say in my album credits "No Pro Tools was used in the making of this record", but I can't now!

So the question I have to ask is: has anyone else experienced this? And if so, does anyone know if this problem has been fixed in X3? I hate to spend my limited cash on an upgrade that is just going to keep doing the same thing. I can't test it in the trial version because it won't let me open my files!

I'm a longtime Sonar user -- since Sonar 3 -- and have loved it, but I've never had so many problems as I have with X2. I'm seriously considering dropping Sonar altogether and switching to Pro Tools if this keeps up.

I'm going to try to uninstall and re-install X2 to see if that helps.

Thanks,
RICK

The keyboard shortcut for envelop offset mode in X2 is the letter O. It is possible to remap the shortcut in Preferences > Customization > Keyboard Shortcuts. Some assign the letter O to "Do Nothing" to prevent accidentally invoking envelop offset mode.

Thanks, scook -- actually, I was just in the process of doing that when your reply came in! Anderton had mentioned it in SOS Mag...

Well, Sonar, forgive me, it WASN'T a bug affecting my Tascam FW-1884 board's track faders, but more rather a VIRUS! I reinstalled the X2a patch, and upon completion, an antivirus popup reported that the fw1884Panel.exe file was infected by a virus! After deleting the virus, I reinstalled the Tascam software & drivers, and now the faders work again -- woo hoo!

The odd thing is that X1 still worked fine, though. Weird. Anyway, I'm glad I can still work with the X2 mix bus processors. Not using those bummed me out more than anything -- they're awesome!

Merry Christmas to me!  :0)

I'm betting it wasn't a virus rather a false positive by the virus scanner, and the reinstall cleared it. But who cares anyway it's working :)

Yes, you're right about that. After I had been working for awhile (so nice to get some work done!), I had to go into the Tascam control panel to bump up buffers, and the antivirus software (AVG Free) popped up again saying that the panel was infected by an UNKNOWN virus! I told AVG to add it to its exceptions list, and all still seems to be working OK. I'm guessing this all started from an automatic detection and quarantine that occurred during an overnight virus scan. Arrrrrrgh!
