this would be nice as vst or standalone for windows
but they don't plan to release it for windows (yet)

the vsc-mp1 and the tts-1 is basically the same
tts-1 has less sounds and drum kits (256/9 compared to 902/26)
but u can create user sounds and drumkits in tts-1 (512/128)

both should sound (nearly) the same playing midi files
may be tts-1 is slightly better may be not

offtopic:

another nice way to play midis is using
dosbox emulator and gravis ultrasounds
playmidi midi player using gravis offically pro patches light 1.61 patches
(gravis dos playmidi.exe player can play modern midis with -verbose or-debug mode without
hangs, crashes etc)

gravis ultrasound has its own sound playing midis
can be better or worse compared to a sound canvas

Roland sold a software product called HyperCanvas.  TTS-1 is similar to HyperCanvas.  The major differences are HyperCanvas was available as a DXI and VST products and was available on both Windows and Mac platforms while the TTS-1 is essentially the HyperCanvas DXI with a different skin.  I don't think Mac operating systems accept DXI synths.

The TTS synth is a very nice synth and has multi-channel capability, and yeah, I've heard some amazing musical projects from people who used it to do an orchestral project that was jaw dropping. And as I recall, the person in question claimed to have moused every note for every instrument into the midi tracks.... making it even more impressive.

However,  I have stopped using it for the most part since it is a basic synth and uses patches vs the better synths which, now days, use samples. It has a purpose and a place, to be sure, but sound wise.... there are a bunch of synths on the market and in my VST list that sound better.

I use the Cakewalk Sound Center synth now for several things since it is a sampled synth. In addition, I have a number of other synths, including Kontakt, which support some amazing samples and of course, Kontakt has one of the larger third party supplied sample libraries around. Both of these, however, are one channel synths so to do 4 instruments requires 4 instances of those synths in question. Not really a major issue, since freezing the synth or render to audio removes all of the processing..... and you have a simple audio track to work with.

The price Roland is asking ($125 US) is a lot for a VST soft synth but it is designed to perfectly emulate all the discontinued hardware sound canvas models.

They are giving you pretty much exactly what you asked for.

yep

but the price is very high if u just want to play midi files
the ios version costs only 20 bugs and is doing the same

$125 for Sound Canvas?  Holy Carp, Batman!  I can think of a lot of things I'd rather spend $125 on than a softsynth emulator of the RSC!
