Unknowen
I don’t even know if it’s posable but it would be really helpful and cool to use the GAIN like a real console.
The ability to control the incoming audio interface signal from within the console strip. :)

lol, I was hoping it was... NOW if I can get it to work! :) It never has...

For that to work (not as a "pre-processing fader", as it is now):
a) the interface should have digitally controlled gain
b) that gain should be controllable from computer side
c) the way to control it should be known (f.e. MIDI, OSC, published API)
d) Sonar should have "HW Gain" parameter for track, which does NOTHING internally but is exposed in the console
e) something (Sonar or external plug-in) should implement (c).

And since I have a device with (a)+(b)+(c) (VS-20), I have my own (e) and (d) can be implemented as a FX Chain within ProChannel... I hope to get it working

The existing gain knob only controls the volume of clips.  It has no effect on input.

Nice idea AZSLOW3
Maybe CW could add a dropdown next to the existing gain knob allowing user to set it to
  a) velocity
  b) gain
  c) midi message
  e) other.... (e.g. user programmable script)
as they wish

Once you can do gain.... you want a bit more

For example, VS-20 is MIDI controllable, but 2x2 only. So when I switch tracks, I want that Gain (hardware!), Direct monitor level and signal input is restored (well... I want much more, like restore only in case the track is armed, switch off direct monitoring when nothing is armed or MIDI track is armed, etc).

A proof of concept you can see on the attached screenshot. Really WORKING proof! "Input" controls hardware gain, "Output" control direct monitoring and there are buttons for input.

As you can see, all that is working inside Sonar console:
* changing settings on VS update setting on the screen (and so there are remembered for future recall)
* changing settings inside Sonar update settings on VS, also changing focused track recall all corresponding settings.

That is just a proof at the moment (I also want recall COSM effect settings and much more from VS20 as a control surface), but I see how the whole concept function in Sonar and I like it

PS ProChannel module you see is a (standard) FX, with one arbitrary effect inside. The "Effect" does not matter, as you can see the whole FX is switched off (it does not affect the sound). I just need several automation parameters. All real "work" is done within AZ Controller.

I think a stand alone gain amp with in and out meters that you can insert multiple times at whichever point in the prochannel chain would be a nice thing.

This thread is about hardware Gain, the parameter of pre-amp inside audio interface.
