Hi Folks,

I had to rebuild an XP DAW and upon completion ran across a few quirks that I'm not sure are "normal". Was hoping somebody may recollect these behaviors in the S2 to S6 timeframe....

1)  Using Superior Drummer 2, whenever I save a Sonar project the VST U/I is "reset"....it always reverts back to the Construct view no matter what I was previously viewing.
2)  A number of the Sonar plugins (EQ, comp, etc) do not accept typed in parameters (numerals) - when I hit ENTER nothing happens. They will not "stick" unless I click someplace else in the UI.
3)  I can load and play a single project just fine, but if I load multiple projects and then try to play any one of them things go crazy, such as CPU spike, etc.

Sincerest thanks for any insight or recollection,

You are probably seeing the typical quirks of such older installs. I remember there was a patch required for Sonar 2.0. Some of the VSTS you're mentioning are probably older DXI format. XP had a max of 3 usable GIG of memory - loading multiple projects would likely hit resource issues. When ever I did this in the past it was to grab certain track elements to copy and paste between projects. I can't remember actually attempting to run multiple projects. I have an older XP system with Sonar 5 and still a ton of good instruments that I use just as an occasional synth module. Still has plenty of capability when it's used conservatively.

Rbh, thanks for replying.  Not a resource issue, been running S5 for years on W2K flawlessly, but had to rebuild recently and used XP instead.  After some inital testing I cannot recall for certain proper behavior.  it would be of great help if you would consider checking item #2 next time you have your S5 system up.  Simply open an legacy Cakewalk plugin (should already be installed...like the compressor for example) - one that has the round dials and numerals underneath.  Type in a new value in one of the fields and hit <enter>, see if it will take or if instead you have to click elsewhere to get the newly typed entry to stick.  I'm trying to determine if I'm encountering an XP-related quirk (possibly SP3) or if this is just the way Sonar always behaved...

For that fact, if anybody else is willing to take a quick moment to try any of the 3 issues listed in the OP it would be greatly appreciated.

SonicExplorer, regarding your issue with the old non automatable DX Cakewalk plugins, that is normal behavior.

I remember also having issues typing in parameters in the older DXI plugs. Sometimes it would work - often times not work. Sonicworks eq and Compressor was always a problem for me to type in numbers. The Sonitus effects while working well would operate better but still argue a bit. Who knows - it may tied to graphics issues as well.

Thanks guys, that's what I suspected WRT issues entering numbers in some plug-ins.  And I too am also wondering if the issues might somehow be graphics related.  I just can't recall for sure how all this behaved on W2K.  I had almost no problems on W2K but now I'm encountering a variety of strange issues on XP.  I suspect I made a mistake updating XP to SP3 and should have stayed on SP2.  A lot of the run time libraries in SP3 are dated years after S5 was released - which makes me wonder if Microsoft made alterations that aren't playing well with Sonar.  I'm even getting random lock-ups in Sonar that I simply cannot identify the cause of.  I was wondering if #3 in the list above (multiple projects open) might shed some light on that, but so far no luck....
