I don't like to keep my machine in sleep mode all the time, since there are times where I might not use my music computer for weeks. To reply to another suggestion, though I'm not sure what updating I did, I was told to update many different things, including Bios, hard drives, etc. I did all of this, and I probably did it multiple times, since I  would speak to different people at Focusrite support. None of it made a difference.
However, as I've said, I no longer have the problem at all since getting my Amazon Basics USB powered hub. I have the Scarlett in one of the 2 high powered USB output ports, though I'm  not sure that's the exact term. However, there are another 4 or 5 regular USB outputs on the device for less "needy" things, like my mouse, etc. I'm not even using these, since I still have the mouse and computer keyboard hooked directly to the USB outputs on my computer.
Thanks for all the input.

Glad its working for you.  Since you are using a USB hub now (and it works), you will probably want to avoid plugging much else into it.

One of the things I ended up doing with my USB powered interface was buy a dedicated USB card and re-install the drivers with it connected to that.  I only connect my midi keyboard and interface to it.  Its a $10 fix if you run into further problems.

I have had issues in the past with USB-powered devices, as well, so when I look at things like a USB-connected audio interface, I ALWAYS make sure it has A/C power.

Things like a mouse, keyboard, or most midi controllers, seem to handle getting their power from the USB port, but devices that do a lot of processing 'work' like an interface, seem to be potentially susceptible to even slight variations in power caused by having multiple USB-power devices sharing the same motherboard header, so for that kind of device I always prefer to look for ones that get their power from the wall.
