  • [Solved] Groove Clip Looping changes length (and tempo) of clip

Not sure why.

I'm trying to make the transition to working in SONAR X3 for MIDI composition instead of Project 5. (That's right, I've taken my sweet time about it).

I've created a drum beat clip, it's 24 bars long. Tempo is constant at 140bpm. I go to select 'groove clip looping' for the clip, and it converts it to a faster tempo, the equivalent of 16 bars long (though I still hear 24 bars). Why is it doing this? Shouldn't it just make it loopable at the original tempo?

Halp. :-)

Go to the Groove Clip section of Clip properties in the Track Inspector, and set Beats in Clip to 96 (assuming 4/4 time). Then drag it back ou to 24 measures (or beyond).

Obnoxious default.  There shouldn't be a default.

There isn't a default for length, SONAR guesses and sometimes gets it right, sometimes not (usually when not, it's double the beats). However, I'm pretty sure the guess is based on the assumption that the loop will be a "binary" number of measures - 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, etc. Those are the loop lengths in 99% of the sample libraries I've used, so at least it's a pretty logical assumption.
