For this sort of thing I prefer to use Song Vegas Movie Studio, just because of the ripple edit mode. Just because it's a video editor doesn't mean you can't use it for audio editing.
Your trivia for today: Vegas 1.0 didn't do video, it was an audio-only DAW designed to compete with Pro Tools. When it couldn't break that market and added video, it started to take off and it's been considered a video editor ever since. However, its audio background is why it's such a familiar environment for DAW users - particularly SONAR, as both Vegas and SONAR hew very closely to the "rules" expected from a Windows interface.
