Oh and in the meantime, although I have not thoroughly tested the service out, anyone who has a Gmail account has access to their Gdrive feature which allows for a decent chunk of online storage. So if you get stuck you could transfer at least some of your data onto their servers until this gets sorted out one way or the other.

can we get some cakewalk insight into this? will it affect the gobbler integration?

The Gobbler Control Bar Module won't work since it relies on talking with the local client. It'll unfortunately be broken in X3 until the new Windows client is released.

I've got about 50GB of projects I need to grab and backup myself. . . Not fun.

I either screwed up my last post or the forum ate it but I wanted to remind everyone that if you have a Gmail account or any google account that you should have access to their Gdrive feature that allows for a semi decent chunk of online storage (15GB I think? Don't quote me on that) but it might be a temporary solution if you do not have any local storage available. I've only used it for non music, non critical purposes so I can't attest to its quality but it seems to work. Cheers.

I use G-Drive and Dropbox quite a bit for collaboration. They work well.

Hi, Seth. I use dropbox for file sharing of music files (bapu turned me onto it when I first showed up) and yes, it does work well. I prefer not to use (or install) the desktop client/program thingie and upload directly to the site instead.

So yeah, guys... dropbox is decent but don't let them talk you into installing that widget thingie unless you actually want it. It is not necessary. I forget how much free storage they give you and all that is required is an email addy.

Have some other fish in the fire right now. Back in a bit. Cheers.

This smells.

Sensing Gobbler's relationship with his server company has soured as well as with CW. There's no legitimate reason for them to have to delete everyone's data and start over, unless it's being held hostage.

Just in from Gobbler:-

Recently, we sent an email letting you know we were planning on sunsetting the Gobbler 1.0 product.  We didn’t think things through as thoroughly as we should have and we know how important Gobbler is to your workflow.  So I spoke with the team and we have a new plan.

First and foremost, we will NOT be shutting down service for previously paid users effective December 1st. While free Gobbler 1.0 accounts will be closed, we will continue to provide the paid Gobbler 1.0 service until our 2.0 product can provide a rich set of features that truly improves upon the 1.0 client. Your data will continue to be available and your service will not be interrupted!

Furthermore, we’d like to say thank you for being a loyal Gobbler:

Starting today your paid account is FREE
You can now use as much storage as you’d like

If you have already paid for an annual account, we will be issuing a prorated refund to you. If you have a monthly subscription, you will not be charged again related to Gobbler 1.0.

While we are working really hard to get Gobbler 2.0 out the door, we know there is a ways to go, and we’re missing some critical features for your workflows. We’ve got some cool stuff in the pipeline, so don’t lose faith! Windows users - we’ve heard you loud and clear that you want Gobbler 2.0, and be assured it is in our pipeline to get into your hands as quickly as we can.

We love our users, not least of which when they’re reminding us why we make Gobbler - for the inspiring creators out there. We hope you’ll be pleased with this new course for sunsetting Gobbler 1.0, and invite you to hit us up with any feedback you may have. Additionally, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter for the latest on Gobbler 2.0 and the community.

We hope you’ll join us on a the journey to 2.0. We’ve got some exciting stuff to show you soon!

I've always been leary using intertube based "cloud" type services for crucial backups because I am generally paranoid and skeptical by nature but after a brief skimming of the OP and some of the followups I gotta say that's some poorly thought out business maneuverings. Generally I've been pretty pleased or outright blown away with Cakewalk's third party affiliation choices and their contributions to the overall package and I get the general impression that it is all very well thought out and intentioned. I also like that there seems to be a focus on some of the extremely high quality underdogs on the market whose products may not otherwise get the recognition they deserve if it weren't for said partnerships. I kind of figured Gobbler, despite me not using them to date, fell into that same category and I'm sure the Bakers must have been inclined to think they were a stable, quality and scrappy upstart but this truly is setting a bad precedent (especially the part about Windows support... WTF?!). Can't win them all I guess but might I suggest Cakewalk consider sending a warning out to all registered customers about this and posting an official stickie on the matter? I've seen quite a few users mentioning they use it and it would be terrible if they lost any data unawares of the situation.

Thanks for posting this, sharke and as well to Craig for attempting to follow up with Gobbler. Despite my hesitation and disinclination to use cloud services I had been considering taking advantage of the Gobbler integration or just creating an account and moving my data over to them manually because other services (who shall remain nameless) have proved to be a disappointment themselves as far as sharing and ease of access. Shame on Gobbler for inconveniencing those who took a chance on their service and for sullying Cakewalk's reputation of steering users to quality third party providers... in this case to the point of coding your service RIGHT INTO THEIR PROGRAM!! I can only imagine the ensuing fury at Baker headquarters over this.
Otherwise I hope all are well. I have something brewing in my own demented workshop for my fellow Sonarites. Until then take care and best wishes. PS: Loving the new site layout. I have been watching from afar despite my silence. Cheers.

This is a very astute post with a very well thought out point of view.

Beep I knew we were missing something. I just couldn't put my finger on it. Now I know. Your posts are being missed.

BTW I have to agree with every point in that post. I also wont trust third party storage.

I've never truly gotten why so many people trust/use "cloud" storage.
External drives are dirt cheap. $70-80 per TB. Why rent "cloud" space?
Has anyone tried to upload a couple hundred gigs to the cloud? Not what I want to spend my time doing. Also, the reality is "cloud" storage is nothing more than saving your stuff on someone else's computer. Maybe it's my age or the fact that I have spent the last 34 years in IT, but I don't want anyone else responsible for my data.

I'm curious Seth as to know when things like this happen with partners, does Cakewalk talk to the company to try fix things and continue their partnership with them knowing with future foresight, they might break something else baked into Sonar?
Or does Cakewalk just end their contract with the company and walk away with a bruised eye and try to find better companies that won't break features in Sonar???
Thanks..
