Sounds simple.... but it isn't working. Let me walk you thru....
I load the song Caribbean Queen. I have 15 channels of musical instruments (brass, sax, piano, drums, etc....) Bass line goes to midi channel 2, thru a Motu Express to a sound module. Drums go out thru midi channel 3, thru Motu to a different sound module. Everything else is pre-mixed and sent out midi channel 1, thru the motu to a 3rd sound module. Sound works properly

Next... I insert a new track, channel 16 out thru midi channel 15 and a second track, channel 17 out thru midi channel 16.  When I enlarge track/channel 16 (midi channel 15), I change edit filter from clips to notes. Input is set to Omni( with drop down box to none), Output is LoopBe internal midi, midi channel 15, bank to none, patch none
Bank has no choices. Patch is where the GM labels are. When they worked last night, as you went down the list, they corresponded with the order of colors at DMXIS. To the right I have a picture of a key board going up and down and what looks like graphing paper that scrolls as the song runs. I am aware this is all pretty basic, but I really appreciate your help and I do not want to waste your time mistateing any info.
Under preferences > midi devices > inputs > Express port 1, 2, 3 selected   on the output > express port 1, 2, 3 and LoopBe internal midi  Do I need to address Midi in Project? It offers Midi sync, Midi Sync Output Ports for LoopBe and 3 channels of the Motu, the same for MTC Output ports

Assuming all this is set up correctly.... I would guess the reason there is nothing being transferred via midi channel 15 and 16 is because nothing is showing to the right in the "graph paper" area? How do I insert a midi note on ch 15 or 16?

Again, Thank You for your help and patience

Hey Tony. That is all set up correctly. You do not need midi sync or timecode settings. Leave the patch set to 'none' on both tracks that are controlling DMXIS. You can either play the notes in from a keyboard, or write them in in Piano Roll View, which I find more accurate than the in line note editor you are trying touse. Just leave the track set to clips and do the following:

Select the track that is going to Ch 15,  Loopbe that controls the DMXIS bank (track 16 in your example project) by clicking on it's track number) and from the views menu at the top of the Sonar screen choose 'Piano Roll View'. Scroll down to the bottom of the Piano Roll View screen that opens  and you will see the bottom note on the keyboard is C-0. With the smart tool selected from the control bar, you will notice that the cursor turns to a pencil when you move over the blank space to right of the keyboard. You simply left click and drag  in line with the C-0 anywhere on the piano roll view that you wish to select bank One on DMXIS. The next note up (Db1)will select bank two and so on, up to bank 99. It is easy to check that this is working by having DMXIS open, selecting preset manager, and then clicking on C-0 and Db-0 on the Piano Roll View keyboard in Sonar to check that the bank selected in DMXIS changes from 1 to 2 (Obviously you will need to have created at least two Banks)

Scene selection works exactly the same way,  Just open the Piano Roll View for track 17in your project and do the same.

Once you get more familiar with the system works you will find it much quicker to create a master project with scenes and chases set up in clips and just drag them from the master lighting project into your song project.

Hi Bruce.... this last bit of info was just what I needed in regards to changing banks and scenes. I really like the piano view and drawing in scenes etc.... it all works perfectly in Sonar. I can actually watch each change via the light to the right of the channel settings... but for whatever reason, it does not work in DMXIS. I can manually work DMXIS.... but settings in piano roll will not affect banks or scenes in the DMXIS. Enttecs support is useless... most times they do not respond. I have LoopBe as midi out on Sonar and as Midi device in DMXIS, but for some reason, the two will not communicate. I even downloaded LoopBe again, just in case, but it had zero effect.

A  few things to check Tony.

Under Sonar>edit>preferences>midi>devices, makesure that loopbe is selected (ticked) ONLY as an output, not as an input. If checked as an input, deselect it.

Next check the loopbe monitor by double clicking on it's icon (a small midi plug) in the windows notification area to the bottom right of your windows task bar (you may need to open the notification area to view it as it may be hidden by default). Make sure that it has not disabled the midi through because it detected a 'feedback loop'. If any loopbe channel HAS a tick in its checkbox, it is disabled. Clear this by unticking the chanels checkbox.

In DMXIS, double check under File>preferences>audio midi settings that your loopbe internal midi chanel is selected (ticked) as the active midi input.

Lastly, try playing each note from the bottom of the keyboard in piano roll view upwards to make sure that higher octaves do not trigger DMXIS, as the bottom note of the midi scale (C-0) can be changed and interpretated differently by different programs, including Sonar.

Just do be doubly clear, you have created more than one Bank in DMXIS, and each Bank has more than one scene in it? It is the banks and scenes you are selecting. There is no direct connection from Sonar to the DMXIS DMX chanel faders other than this.

Good MOrning,
I wanted to thank you for all your help. I finally got db audioware support to respond and they had me do a midi out varefication with Midi-Ox... which verified what I have been saying... we had midi signal going out of Sonar. The issue turned out to be 2 things.... somehow I had disabled sound activation on DMXIS and I needed to boost velocity to max on each lighting track. It now works great!

I would never have been able to get this done without your help. Thank you again,
TonyC
