Hey guys,
I have a project I created in X3 32 bit that I tried to open in 64 bit.  Not surprisingly, I got a crash.  I reopened the project, removed all the 32 bit plugins, did a "save as" in a different location, but when I tried to open the new renamed project in 64 bit it crashed again.

Any thoughts on how I can open this in 64 bits?

Thanks!

There is no such thing as 32 bit projects vs 64 bit projects. You may have 64 bit plugins in a project but that will not make it 64 bits. Nor will 32 bit plugins make it a 32 bit project. It could be the 64 bit Sonar is not properly installed. All my old projects open just fine in either version. Something else is amiss.

Any thoughts on how I should proceed?

Perhaps a reinstall of Sonar 64 bit.

Perhaps open it in safe mode (hold down shift key while selecting file name). This will allow you to open the project and elect to not instantiate each plugin one at a time thus being able to load your project and insert the proper plugins.

If the project was created in 32 bit Sonar it will have 32 bit plugins. When you try to open the project in Sonar x64, those 32 bit plugins may not be available. Sonar won't automatically insert 64 bit plugins in place of the 32 bit ones. Each plugin is a specific file with 32 and 64 bit files located in seperate places.

If the 64 bit Sonar has recently been installed you may need to reset and rescan all your plugins to make sure that Sonar also sees your 32 bit plugins. Do this first and perhaps the project will load.

Hey Guys,
I tried opening another project created in X3/32 bit in X3/64 and all went well (dunno why I didn't do that before I made this post), so I'm guessing that the problem maybe project specific.

Many thanks to those of you who posted a reply.  It was helpful and appreciated.

Open the file in the x86 version, export all audio files as wave files, then import them back into the 64-bit version if all else fails...

To reiterate what John said, there's no 32Bit or 64Bit project.  The project file itself is completely portable (can be opened in either the 32Bit or 64Bit version of Sonar).
The issue is down to 32Bit plugins... or a particular problematic 64Bit plugin.

My guess would be a DirectX effect or instrument.
