I just happened to bump into a short list of artists using Sonar and as you asked today, I came back to share it...

http://www.xtempozone.com/wordpress/resources/sonar/

Musicians like Tom Hamilton from Aerosmith, Jimmy Buffet, B.B. King, three members of System of a Down, and Jon Anderson from Yes. Not to mention DJs and remixers such as Doug DeAngelis (Madonna, Nine Inch Nails, The Pet Shop Boys, et al), and Wu-Tan Clan. And producers including Bone Harris (Marylin Manson, Smashing Pumpkins, etc.), Jimmy Nichols (Reba McEntire, Elton John, etc.), and others.

You can also add Brian Hardgroove (Public Enemy, Bootsy Collins) to the list.

Nice toy, Craig. Maybe adding that to my wish list. Right now I have a pedal in my keyboard and pedal in my alphatrack but this is clearly better and wireless. Battery hog?

Not horrible, but I suggest rechargeables.

I take it you use one? I notice no expression pedal.

Yes. And correct, no expression pedal. FYI I've also given it a lot of use with word processing - buttons for bold, italic, etc. It works with anything even though it was designed for DAW etc. control.

It's not cheap, but after a while it more than justifies its existence.

Ted Nugent ordered the boxed set of Sonar discs, and sneaks up on deer and CLUBS them with it.

I hate Sonar, it's complicated, you have to know all kinds of stuff about your windows box to get it to work reasonably well.

It's like that with all DAW, Video and Gaming software.  It's no different for Mac users.  A more proprietary environment is more stable buy less free.

This might seem controversial as everybody thinks Macs are just perfect but I've had more crashes with Pro Tools than Sonar, and yes same old chestnut was at fault... plugins... drivers... etc etc. So not Pro Tools fault.

Bottomline is all software is buggy, and both PC and Mac run on Intel. Mac's are PC's.

Apple updates their OS more frequently and in other forums there's always someone waiting for the guinea pig to see if everything still works.  Many of the cross platform software updates on my licenses have been for the Mac side.

Everytime there is a new release you are the guinea pig regardless of platform, MS releases updates once a month I don't want updates to be any more frequent unless there is an emergency. Personally I don't find either platform to be unreliable if it is configured correctly.

I opened it without issues. Gswitz quoted the pertinent data from it (the artists).
