I haven't worked with Logic enough in recent times to comment on its stability. I hear that X is worse than 9 in that respect, although the auto-save feature is better. ProTools is one of the few DAWs I've never used at all. Comparing Live to Sonar I would probably call Live a bit more stable, though I've had it crash too. Not to mention that Live doesn't even support ARA, VST3 or have its own bitbridge, all of which have been sources for problems in Sonar. It's easy to not have problems if you don't support a feature at all. All in all I've had more issues with my M-Audio Fast Track Pro driver than with either DAW.

I don't think that Sonar is a lot more "crashy" than other programs. I've been able to trace back most crashes to Melodyne, to be honest. Which sucks, because I love and need Melodyne.
Windows machines in general are, sadly, indeed more vulnerable to driver and configuration issues. CoreAudio is just a great protocol and MME is not (which is why ASIO even exists). But this is more a greyscale than a black and white issues, I've seen Macs crap out too and weeks go by without my Windows system crashing. I'm hoping/dreading a new audio standard will arrive with Windows 10. Craig has commented Microsoft is finally thinking about addressing the ****ed 10 midi devices limit too. Both of those things are outside of Sonar's scope of control, yet hugely important to people's problems.

What I would like to see from Cakewalk is better organized preferences within Sonar. There has been another long thread about this but I would personally like to see ONE unified screen where you set up your audio device, instead of one where you choose the driver standard, one where you set the bit depth and timing master and one where you choose which ins and outs to enable. I really like Ableton's audio preferences in this respect. I think it would do a lot for the understanding of the average starting user to find all those things in a single screen. I still find myself often clicking the wrong one initially and flipping through the three to get to what I need.
