I hope somebody can help me here. I just tried a Mackie 1640i with SONAR X3 and I have some issues. I am running Windows 7 and am using the most current driver available

First off, with ASIO driver selected all the inputs for the ONYX mixer are greyed out and not available.

With WDM driver selected, I can only see the first 8 inputs of the mixer available. As in 4 in 4 out as 1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8

Can anybody here help ????

Hi. If the ASIO drivers are greyed out, it suggests to me that they are taken elsewhere, by Windows (or some other app). What else do you have running in the background?
All the best.

I have RME Total Mix running in the background as I thought I could share drivers for the Mackie and my RME UCX. I'm not at my studio right now but I am going to be there shortly so I will try closing total mix to see if that is my problem. Thanks for the quick reply!

Windows does not allow sharing ASIO drivers of different makes/models.
You could use another RME, but not the Mackie together in ASIO mode.

Well then that's probably my problem! I have used two RME interfaces and that's why I assumed I could share the drivers!!!! I hope that also fixes the situation of not seeing all the input channels. I will reply to this post as soon as I get to my studio so you know the outcome!

The ASIO specification restricts the host to use one I/O driver at a time. Some manufacturers such as RME, mentioned above, write their drivers in a way to allow their hardware to use the same driver so that more than one interface may be attached to the DAW at a time. AFAIK, no manufacturer provides a driver that allows aggregation of competitors products.

I have an Onyx mixer, too.  It comes with an ASIO driver that works perfectly in Sonar.  Perhaps yours came with one, too.

Why I run a Mac :D LOL. Sorry couldn't resist. But seriously, the Mackie was a pretty good mixer when I had it. And what Lynn said :).

Ken, I disabled the RME stuff in the Devices tab in Sonar and sure enough all 16 Channels worked fine. I appreciate the help from you and others on the problem.

I'm loving the sound of this mixer!
