Me too, now I'm figuring out the routing of the 1640i, it has some limitations because of it's design as both a live board and a recording board. The main inserts (where I would of course like to throw some of my good hardware compressors), are post Firewire! And when mixing, you have to route the main mix back to channels 15 and 16 so you lose two channels at mixdown. Fortunately for me, most of my singer songwriter style tunes fall under 14 tracks. 
Some great things about it are the great sounding preamps which took me by surprise, and the very effective good sounding 4 band Perkins EQ. Along with that, there are a quite a few ins/outs on this thing, check out the rear panel!

FYI, if you can afford it, the circuitry can actually be done pre instead of post. Something like that anyway, it's been a while since I saw the manual, but I remember it being an option.
