The thing with Jam Origin is, the company finished the initial release of MIDI Guitar this time last year put out a (broken at least for me) beta of MIDI Bass and effectively vanished. No word or update on either product. I bought the original MIDI Guitar beta when they offered a decent discount, not sure I would buy now even at that price given how quite the company has been.

Midi Guitar Player over here since 1982 ....
I feel a few important questions anyone who is considering using a midi guitar should be asking them self's are ..
Can I make midi guitar work for me ?
What is a reasonable expectation for what a midi guitar interface can do for my playing and music ?
Can I  adapt my playing and adjust my technical ability to make playing a midi guitar work for me ?

BTW, that's only the tip of the iceberg , so let me leave it at that for now .

Please allow me the opportunity to do this instead ...
A couple of nights ago I was in the process of learning a new song (to me ),  while I was practicing the song , I was using the Jam Origin plug to convert my regular guitar over to midi in real time ...
I recorded my progress ..  here is the practice clip of my practice session

for those of you that are detail orientated , here are the specs on my practice clip
The backing track is an Abersold....it has a wide stereo spread Bass left , Piano right ...I left it as is.
the BT happens to be playing in real time ...meaning it's a non groove clip .
My midi guitar guitar parts were all played to this BT in real time ...
I did 3 passes and these are the only overdubs . one for the head , one for the solo and one for the songs closing head .....
I did not do any midi editing what so ever except for the 4 little stray blips that I could have left in...
this means ...there is no quantize....no velocity editing , and no piano roll editing  (other than  4 blips )
As a rule I generally don't usually post my practice clips online ....
I feel the song itself is challenging enough as it would stand just trying to play it on a guitar
I'm posting this clip with the hope that it may give a reasonable idea of what a midi guitar can do in a real world situation ...

I remember playing someone's MIDI guitar sometime in the early 90's. It was a Fender Strat with a MIDI pickup as I recall. I played it into Cubase on an Atari ST and we had it triggering a Proteus 3. I was actually quite amazed at how well it converted my fingerstyle playing. I recorded a set piece and then went into Cubase to tidy up the notes in the score editor. It really didn't need that much work, just a few bum notes here and there. My technique was probably very solid back then, I used to practice 5-6 hours a day. But even so, I wasn't expecting such good results. Imagine my surprise when, over 20 years later, it doesn't seem to have improved that much. LOL!

I've done a lot of polyphonic guitar to MIDI conversion with Melodyne. It's been quite hit and miss for me. Sometimes the results are good, sometimes I have to tell Melodyne that it's drunk and should go home

One thing I've found that helps with Melodyne is if you turn the tone pot on your guitar all the way down.

The GT100 has a pitch to midi output which I have used to play Scarbee bass.  It tracks notes fairly well and only tracks melodies, but you can use it to record bass lines.   However its a limited market for this feature because anyone who can play guitar can probably also play passable bass and a real bass is better.

The thing is that even if the tracking is perfect, you still need to learn to play like the instrument you are emulating.  Even if it could track every note, it would be impossible to learn to play a guitar like a piano.

I'm pretty sure you are sharke, but you're low and high pass fltering the audio before processing it right?

I'll have to try low pass filtering it. I always turn down my tone pot but maybe that's not enough.

My favorite (and most accurate) option is still the YouRock guitar. Go ahead and laugh, it looks like a game controller, but although it's not a guitar it lets you play synths with guitar gestures.

Thanks for mentioning that. I use a VG-99 & GR-55 and I'm happy with them, but it is that time of year and Amazon has the YouRock guitar on sale for less than $200. At that price I have to give it a try...

Michayl: Go listen to Pat Metheny last train home , then you can begin to understand just how hard it is to play and land the part.... I know only 1 person who can come even close ..to land a perfect part you have to play it ahead of the track...if you get a chance chk out the old ARP Avatar...good luck !
