Are you sure it has a built-in MIDI synth? I don't think it does. Its just a MIDI interface. Try using a softsynth.

Without MIDI IN, you can't play it from the computer. You're going to have to use a softsynth or get a better keyboard.

Well, what keyboard do you have? Does it have a USB or a TO HOST connection? If not, how will it receive MIDI data from the computer?

Home Studio comes with a few softsynths depending on what version you have. Take the Tutorials.

If you want help, you have you have to give us more info. Also sounds like you need to read the Desktop Music Handbook at http://www.cakewalk.com/tips/desktop.asp

i have the keystation 61es,

my setup is - laptop presario 2100 , hardware-Lexicon Omega - USB Audio Interface(this has MIDI in and MIDI) out.
my keyboard(USB bus powered) only has midi out but it has usb connection- does that mean i can bypass the lexicon and put it straight into mp laptop???? i am using pro tracks plus it has various instruments on it.

last thing - when i play notes on the keyboard my computer IS receiving midi as the activity light flashes i just can't hear sound.
i was going to take my keyboard back but the guy said my keyboard only needs midi out but he had never heard of the omega lexicon.

the diagram to set it up says my keyboard needs midi in and midi out.

dave - if you coud help great before i throw all of it out my window.

As far as I can tell, the Keystation is only a controller. It is not a synth. It doesn't have any sound generation capability. No problem if you can use softsynths. Unfortunately, I don't have Pro Audio. I have Home Studio and Sonar which support softsynths. See if there is a Tutorial in the Help section on Using Softsynths. You need to upgrade your software. Keep in mind the upgrade path from Cakewalk Pro Audio is to Sonar, not Home Studio. You can go to Home Studio, but then you've lost some of your purchasing power.

Also you violated Dave's Rule #2: Never take the advice of a salesperson in a music store.

(And for review, Dave's Rule #1 is: Never buy used equipment if the owner's manual is not included.)

i bought it new - check the web-site http://www.lexiconpro.com/Omega/index.asp - this is what i'm using.

it's a start, when i use the tassman se i can hear sound.

on pro tracks plus there are various instuments(drum maps etc.)- what are they for if they don't work?
