I was wondering if anyone knew if the pianos from Komplete 5 would work in Sonar X3 before I go crazy searching my house for them. I really liked the pianos, but didn't like the Kontakt player/interface and was hoping I could just use them as a plug in in X3 and maybe the Aria player would recognize them?
Thanks.

I believe the Kontakt format instruments need to be converted to aria's format if you don't like Kontakt. At least there is some paid converters for this job.

There is also the option to try if you find other pianos for a good price or try use free ones. One good free one is the cv piano. There is a guide on Youtube to optimize it. Then there is a free Grand piano from xln:

Have you spent some quality time with the True Pianos that come with SONAR? They're quite tweakable, and you can get some pretty cool sounds.

I use the Kontakt 5 Akoustik Pianos as libraries in Sonar X3e, by attaching them to Kontakt 5.  There are a BUNCH more piano sounds to pick from with these libraries then there are in the native Kontakt Factory Library sounds or the others you get with something like Ultimate 8.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate you comments.
Hey, Rob Bone, do you mean that I can use the Komplete 5 Akoustik piano in Sonar X3, and it'll plug in and show up in my plug ins list? Wait, now I think I remember, I only had to use Kontakt 3 player to play the Native Instruments in Sonar, but maybe the Akoustic Piano had it's own graphical interface. Hmm..thanks.

Also, thanks Craig A. I have used True Pianos and they "seemed" to sound good enough, but I wanted to A/B them again the pianos from Komplete 5 as I "think" those sounded good too. I guess I didn't have confidence in the True Piano because of it's basic overall look, but if you are endorsing it, what the heck do I know. I trust your ears over mine. Thanks again.

And Kakku, thanks, I'll look into those converters.

I'm not "endorsing" it per se, I have Kontakt 5 and several of their pianos (I'm a major Kontakt fan). They all sound different to me. I just used True Pianos on a recent project because I could tweak it easily to sound more "rock and roll" - I needed it to cut through a mix. Worked great. The Kontakt ones probably would have worked too. A lot of times differences are quantitative rather than qualitative...Synthogy's Ivory is good too. The days of crappy sampled pianos are, thankfully, behind us.

Thanks, Craig, got it, I understand. My first synth piano was the Roland Sound Canvas 55 in 1991. Things have progressed nicely since then.
I'm trying to remember if I used to read you on Compuserve. Were you part of those forums? I never got into the AOL thing during the 90s, although I did join AOL in 91 when there were only 50,000 members and then never used it. I'm pretty sure I read you in many different magazines, but I'm trying to remember if you popped into the Recording forum on Compuserve.

I have the LIBRARIES for the Akoustik Pianos added to the search path for Kontakt, and then Kontakt plays them just fine.
