Hi, is it possible to send one midi track to multiple synths without copying the original midi track?

I want to do this because of some advanced addictive drums routing that I'm doing.

Thanks

SONAR does not have MIDI sends. It does have linked clips. If you prefer not to use linked clips the only other solution is a virtual MIDI cable, LoopBe1 and LoopMIDI are free.

There is a VSTi called MIDImonitor that, along with showing you the actual MIDI data coming into it, lets you enable MIDI out.  Once this is enabled, MIDImonitor's MIDI out can then be selected as a MIDI source for other soft synths.

This way, more than one synth can be set to have MIDImonitor's MIDI out as that synths source MIDI.  The actual MIDI data that you wish both soft synths to respond to can be placed in the MIDImonitors track.

I did a simple test with three Simple Instrument tracks

1.  MIDImonitor - with its MIDI out enabled - echo on, so I can play with my MIDI controller
2.  Rapture Pro - with its MIDI source set to MIDImonitor's MIDI out - echo on - so Rapture Pro responds to MIDImonitor's MIDI out Data
3. Truepianos - with its MIDI source set to MIDImonitor's MIDI out - echo on - so Truepianos responds to MIDImonitor's MIDI Out Data

When I play the MIDI contrller, the synths I hear are Rapture Pro and Truepianos simultaneously.  The sounds cease when I turn echo off on track 1 only

I can even record MIDI data on the MIDImonitor track only.  When I play these back, I hear are Rapture Pro and Truepianos simultaneously - yet there is only one copy of the MIDI data - which is in the MIDImonitor track.

MIDIMonitor can be download from here

Hope that helps

Seems like unnecessary hoops to jump through when linked clips work so much better anyway.

Even when you're routing common MIDI data to multiple destinations, most of the time you'll want to automate each synth separately. Having separate tracks makes that possible. Plus, linked tracks can always be converted to normal tracks once you're happy with the composition, allowing you to then tweak data for each synth independently.

I'll tell you what it's for.
I play electronic drums into a midi track and send it into multiple addictive drums so I can mix the overheads and room independently for the bass, snare and cymbals.

You can do that with a single MIDI track and a single instance of AD, and save yourself some bother.

Just route each instrument (or group of instruments, e.g. toms) within AD to its own audio output. That way, you have the tidiness of one MIDI track and one VI, but you can effect and mix each drum independently. It's a bit of a chore to set up initially, but once you've got it the way you like you can save it with your project template so it'll automatically be there whenever you start a new project.

You can't do this using Instrument Tracks, though. You need separate MIDI and audio tracks.

Further to bitflipper's post, I have made Track Templates for drums and other VIs by using a Track Folder for my MIDI track and corresponding audio tracks and then saving the folder as a track template (I think it must be minimized first, but don't recall).  So, just as bitfipper suggested, just setup it up once and then it's there when ever you want it (and the big plus) in any project.

Kind regards,
