I was quite preoccupied with a number of things (both good and bad) for a couple of months and I missed something major.
 
Did a company called Bandlab buy Cakewalk?  Is this a new group of investors, or part of another music technology company?

Actually, CW crashed and burned.  It ceased operations in November.  SONAR was bought by BL (NOT CW, just the IP to SONAR).  There is will a continuation of SONAR with another name and possibly some changes to the program itself.  Meng has stated that present owners of SONAR will receive BL's version for free.  
 
Hopefully we'll see a new roll-out fairly soon.
