• SONAR
  • End of Clip Click/Pop ?

I remember this from way back in CWPA days.  The other sequencer I have been using handled this automatically.

When  a sound is playing at the end of the clip there is a click/pop noise because the audio is broken ungracefully.  Is there a way to have Sonar automatically handle clips so there is no pop?

I think other sequencers handle this by automatically inserting a fade out at the end of the clip.  Surely there is a way to deal with this in Sonar?

Manually put a fade out on the clip.

That's the SONAR way. I've not seen any "automatic" and I'd be leery of that as what technology is to say what is wanted and unwanted? I mean you might want it and the automajik robot does not.

Sometimes we're smarter than the programming in such cases.

Just my $0.02.

In digital audio you need to start and end a clip at a ZERO Crossing or you may get artifacts on them.

Feel free to put in a feature request for that option of having sonar put a fade automatically on every clip. I would not want that. CD Architect has that option and i do not like it. I'm always altering the auto-fade as you need to adjust the fade according to every clip. So its just easier to put the fade in yourself

What he said.

Wait a minute......... that's what i said (sans the feature request).

I said it more 'best'  and I listed my own personal experience with auto fades and defined what he was hearing.

I am coming from Samplitude and that is regarded as the best DAW in terms of audio editing, and they handled the issue of zero crossings for at least the past decade automatically.  I am actually kinda surprised that Sonar has not addressed this- the zero crossings were handled transparently and perfectly in samp.  That is one of the things I liked about Samplitude when I switched to it from Sonar XL about .. oh ten years ago.  Surprised that in over a decade they haven't addressed this.

I dont remember hearing the non-zero crossing clicks/pops in other daws or in standalone hardware recorders I have used.

There has got to be an easy and professional way of dealing with this - the Samplitude/Sequoia pro market would accept no less, to say that Sonar should not change this because its "not pro" is .. laughable.

I think Sonar is behind the curve here by many years.

A recorded audio clip will be fine until you stretch or cut it. Right-click the "Snap" button in the control bar and it opens snap to grid preferences.

One of those preferences is "snap to nearest audio zero crossings". It's been there for many versions od SOnar.

If you then set the snap to grid to a low number of samples you can then cut clips anywhere and it will be on a zero crossing.

As for fades, Sonar can do clip fades automatically (or as near as matters). Select the clips you want to fade, click on the "clips" menu in track view and one of the functions is "fade clips". Where you also get to choose the type and length of the fade. Far better than a "one size for everything" approach.
