  • X2 No Longer Sees My Sound Card

Hello--

I had a virus on my DAW and from that time until now--after a complete removal of the threats, Sonar X2 can't see my sound card.

I've reinstalled the sound card drivers. Sound Forge and Wave Lab can see my sound card. In fact, everything else can see my sound card but X2 :-(

In older versions of Sonar there was an audio profiler feature where you hit the button and it scanned for all of your sound cards. I guess there is no feature like that any longer.

Does anyone have any tips on how I can force X2 to scan for my sound card?

Thanks!

What is the sound card and driver version and OS? Have you download the latest?
64 bit windows and 64 bit sonar?
Try renaming AUD.INI (google for details).
Don't use ASIO4ALL (just in case you have it).
With an ASIO driver (prerable option) there is no profiler.
Make sure you only run Sonar app and close the other apps (at first).
Thanks.

which driver mode in sonar are you using?  check it, and also check the Playback and Recording Timing masters and verify that your soundcard is listed in those.

if that doesn't solve it, try changing to WDM or ASIO mode and back again

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I should mention before the virus my card was rock solid.
My specs are in my signature, but I was running in ASIO mode.
I don't have anything else running when I launch SONAR.
The audio device window in Sonar is blank. It doesn't even see the integrated MS sound card.
My sound card is set to be the timing master.
I'll see if I can switch from ASIO to WDM and see if that helps.
Q: If none of the above work, what are the X2 repair options? If I try to install it over the top of my current instance, does it offer a repair option?
Q: I'm sorry, I don't understand these: Try renaming AUD.INI (google for details).
Don't use ASIO4ALL (just in case you have it).

You can try re-personalizing SONAR. Hold the CTRL and SPACE keys while starting SONAR, this will put SONAR back to factory defaults. The process overwrites everything in your user directory C:\Users\yourUserName\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\yourVersionOfSonar, including AUD.ini, Cakewalk.ini, TTSSEQ.ini, drum maps, metronome data.... It also resets some registry entries. Definitely worth trying before attempting a re-install. Should you elect to perform a reinstall here are the instructions http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2817470

Do you know what the potential risks are for re-personalizing? Will it have any negative impact on any previously recorded projects?

I'm guessing a reinstall is a more radical proceedure, right?

I'll check the link, but really don't want to mess up any of my previous projects.

Thanks!

Re-personalizing does not touch projects. It does reinitialize the config files so you might want to copy out the ini files from your user directory to a safe place. Then they will be available as references.

Reinstall is a bigger change. This is why I would try re-personalizing first.

Either way, nothing happens to your projects.

Regardless, after all the assurances in the world, don't forget to backup.

Ok, great. I will definitely copy the ini file and do a backup.
I'm really hoping this works. This is a relatively new DAW and this is the first major issue I've had.
Needless to say, I upgraded my AV software!

Thanks,

If it's relatively new I'd seriously consider an os wipe / reinstall after a virus, but only you can know if it's worth the pain

I hope the re-personalization works too but a re-install is not too traumatic, the instructions in the link take you step by step.
