I have been using computer software since the inception of the pc. Many of the programs I have used involve numerous plugins and test the limits of my systems. However, I have NEVER, I repeat, NEVER had the issues I have had with Sonar since upgrading past 8.5. Time after time, I upgrade and things are good for awhile, then suddenly "Sonar has ended unexpectedly and has to close...etc..etc...". My latest fix is to re-install the latest patch, that works for awhile then....CRASH.  I appears I can't rely on this software anymore because I never know when the next crash will occur. It usually happens in between saves of course and precious takes are gone for good. I've tried different drivers, interfaces, updates, patches, nothing works. It really is a pity because WHEN IT WORKS it really is the best DAW out there. I'm so fed up.

Are you looking for help or did you just sign up to bash Sonar and then leave? If you are truly looking for help, you will need to share your PC specs, Sonar version and some details about the active project when the crash occurs.

Love to jump in and assist, but I can tell you the responders before me are some of the best and brightest....from personal experience.

I'm running X3e on Windows 7 and it is nearly flawless.  Love my Sonar X3e.  am largely at the 64 bit level in running but also have a number of 32bit vsts in opertion with no complaint.....

OP - add some additional tech detail and the community can come to the rescue.

It does have some of the telltale signs, but we'll reserve judgement...maybe his head exploded, and he'll be back tomorrow after he puts the pieces back together.

Everyone here knows what he describes is not normal behavior. Heck, I've just run Sonar for the past 4 hours straight on two big projects in their final mix stages, and nary a hiccup.

Let's not try to be so quick to judge me. No dump and run here, I haven't been able to get the forum, I have to work sometimes. There are plenty of places to trash software on the WWW if that was my intention. Please take note that I also said that Sonar is best there is. I wouldn't have posted if I wasn't looking for a solution. I've updated my signature with system info. I would appreciate help on how to "open a support ticket" to properly diagnose my crashes once again. Thank you in advance for all sincere responses.

You may have add your specs to your sig,  but you need to turn the sig on for us to see it...

First, check for updates. You really need to go to 8.1...even Microsoft doesn't really support Windows 8. Some people here highly recommend going for the optional updates as well.
The Octa-Capture had an update for Windows 8.1, maybe the Quad Capture did too.
Turn off "Low latency" mode in the Capture control panel.
Graphics cards can be a minefield of issues. Check for updates, and disable any HDMI driver it throws into Sound, Video, and Game Controllers.
Check for Kontakt updates.
Disable any drivers you don't need to use, like wi-fi cards.
If you're using a gamer mouse that can be a problem.
USB can be a problem, but that's a separate issue...

After doing all this, then if problems persist it's time to narrow in on specific symptoms.
