I just recently upgraded from Cakewalk Pro9 to Sonar X3, and when I try to make changes in the Event List, I find that I now have to press "Enter" before I can make a change. Is there any way to change this back to the way it used to be where all you had to do is start typing and it would automatically start entering the change? I find this new way of doing it slows my ability to make the necessary changes waaaaayy down. Where I could totally change the levels of a drum track in a matter of minutes, it is now taking several hours. HELP!!!
 
Also, I can no longer page up and page down in this window, either, which also slows things down. If there's any way to get back to the way things were with this view, it would be good to know. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

That's quite a jump from Cake Pro9 to Sonar X3 . . . obviously many things have changed, and there are new ways of doing some things.
 
You might be able to map some keyboard shortcuts regarding Event View to help speed up editing.
 
What I find best for adjusting midi drum track levels is the PRV view. Once there is a midi drum map set up (this may take some effort depending what drum device you have) you can select individual drum pieces and adjust velocities for a whole track very quickly.
 
Also, "page up and page down" in Event View still works fine on my system.
 
Also, new in the X series is the Event Inspector (a module on the control bar) . . . you should check that out to speed edit your tracks.

Once I got through posting this, I went back to do some more editing and found that I could page up and down. Oh, well. I'll check out the PRV view. I'm still in the process of learning everything that is beyond just the Cakewalk software. I used Pro Audio 9 for quite a few years, and would still be using it, but time and other factors have forced me to upgrade my computer, and since XP is no longer supported, had to change that too.
 
While I was using Pro Audio 9 I had the idea that it would be good to put each drum sound on its own track, which would make editing easier, but getting each sound on its own track was a major job, so I didn't pursue it very far. If you could point me in the direction of tutorials concerning setting up a midi drum map, using PRV view, etc. that would be helpful. Thanks.

Cake TV, on the Cakewalk site, has some video tutorials regarding use of midi drums in Sonar.
 
Don't know what you're using, but a lot of drum soft synths come pre-mapped to work in Sonar (eg. Session Drummer 3) and you can always use the General Midi drum set up as a starting point, then customize.
 
The existing drum map in a drum tracks PRV view can be dragged out from the left side.

I'm something of an old-timer, so I get why you'd be gravitating to the Event List view for some things. I still use it for certain very-targeted edits, but it's really the proverbial Dodo bird of sequencing tools, and there are better, faster ways of doing most things once you get up to speed with the more graphical tools and functions. While you're at, you might want to try weaning yourself off the DOS command line and using the mouse more. 
 
Regarding, Page Up/Down, this has required the Ctrl modifier for some time now. I think it only works for me because I have PgUp/Down without Ctrl mapped to Previous/Next Measure in Keybindings. Left/right bracket keys, [ ], are the default one-key bindings.
