I have a dual boot system with Windows 7 and  8.1 on it.  I was thinking of installing my Sonar on the 8.1 OS.  Would there be conflicts with the Windows 7 OS.

Two questions on the same subject :
 
How do you handle the fact that Sonar forces a bunch of stuff to the C: drive ?  How do you share that between boots ?
Move Cakewalk stuff to another partition and sym link to it from both c: drives ?
 
What happens with two registries ?
 

Each OS should be installed on its own partition, or better yet, on its own drive.
When done properly, each OS sees the other OS partition as merely a data drive ~
the OS's won't "see" each other's installed operating system and programs as anything other than data folders.  Programs installed under one OS do not show up in the registry of the other OS, even though the program folders are still accessible between the OS's.
 
Basically, you need to plan to install each application - be it Sonar, Microsoft Word, whatever - under each OS where you plan to use it.  With careful planning, data folders can be share the same physical location between the two OS's (for example, the content folders for Cakewalk), but it's best to make sure the software is installed with the same options, plugins, etc. under each OS.
 
And yes, this DOES work -
I use it to triple boot between Windows XP, 7, and 8.1.  Each has its own drive or partition for the OS and programs, but I point each one at a common shared drive for the data folders.
