It is almost here. If its that good it may become my main DAW. I doubt it but a close second to what I have wouldn't hurt. I would also like any new plugins to be able to work in my DAW of choice so please Band Lab bring on those goodies and make it available all across the board.

I wouldn't set the bar too high for them right off the bat. Give them some time. Look how long it took Sonar to develop into Sonar Platinum. I'm just happy that Cakewalk isn't dead.

Why would they give us a flagship DAW that is just the same as the one we have now. Wouldnt make any sense or inspire us to upgrade. So I expect maybe a few toys with the next Sonar and probably bug fixes. Although my copy of SPLAT works okay (if okay is crashes now and again and audio dropouts, then yes my version works okay.) Oh, and when you set parameters you have to set them up each time you open sonar e.g sound on sound needs to be set all the time.) other DAWs I will not mention because of respect you can set it and it stays the same for a lifetime.

The first version will almost certainly be a rebranded SONAR, with maybe a few goodies added, but I wouldn't expect anything beyond that at first.

Meng said we would be excited with the up coming news. I don't know if that meant about Sonars first release or future releases. but something is going to be good.

Flagship means top of the range version. It doesn't mean an amazing new version. Sonar Platinum was Cakewalk's flagship DAW. In this timeframe, I anticipate it will be rebranded, have the LANDR integration replaced by Bandlab's version, have the last update we never got (Oct 17?) applied and maybe some extras to keep us interested. On top of that, they might announce their plans and vision for the future, but not to the extent that it would help their competitors. I wouldn't be surprised if they keep the monthly updates model as that seemed to be working well, was popular with users and popular with developers. But I don't think anyone should build their hopes too high for the first Bandlab Sonar release or you may end up being disappointed if you expect too much at this stage.

I'm also hoping for the announcements of a Roadmap for where the new DAW is heading - things like will there finally be an update to Notation/Score Editing. Beyond that, I'm curious how much SONAR will be in the new product (what things have to be left out, beyond LANDR - other Third Party stuff that BandLab either can't or has decided not to keep, for example).

I can't remember where I read it now, but the guy from Sonic Scores who develops Overture 5 said that he had been working on a deal with Cakewalk to integrate Overture features into Sonar to replace the crappy score editor. They came up with a great deal but when Cakewalk went to Gibson for the go-ahead, Gibson trashed the idea. They came back with an even better deal but Gibson trashed that too. I don't think this was long before the closedown. Perhaps that could become a reality now that Gibson is out of the picture.
