  • Need some help concerning one Sonar X3 crash (IK Sampletank 3 is the cause)

Hello to everybody,

Here are my spec :
Sonar X3 d
Proc : i7, Windows 64 bits, Ram :12 gb
System Roland VS700 (console and soundcard)

Sorry to come again with problems but I worked on a project (containing audio tracks and 3 virtual instruments) without problem, until I open an instance of Sampletank 3 : I tried some stuff in it, changing (carefully) some instruments but one by one or maybe two maximum at the same time, BUT after about 20 minutes, Sonar stopped suddenly and I was forced to close the project and restart everything : computer, console and sound card.
When I re-open the project, I got a full scan of all my plugins and vsti, and after, a little window appeared : SONARPDR  with below the name of one plugin of my project and a step loading process : That took time !
BUT THE BEST is : when I play my project, the tracks are read but I have absolutely no sound coming from my sound card (??)
I tried with a pair of other projects and (except the little windows SONARPDR which appeared for one) everything is normal !

Would you have any idea of the problem ? It's not the first time that Sampletank 3 causes crashes but I never experienced the troubles I described after this crash !

Do you think that if I make a system restore point corresponding to before the incident could bring back to my system I found rather stable ?

Thank you very much for your appreciated help !

Pierre

Try updating to X3e and use the VST2 version of Sampletank

Thanks much scook for the suggestions !
I always used the VST2 version of ST3 considering all the problems reported in the forum with the VST3 version.
As for X3e, I 'm a little bit reluctant regarding some problems mentionned and as long as I was "rather satisfied" with the satbility of the version d.
I noticed I have the Sampletank version 3.0.2 (4H27) and there is a version 3.0.3 (but nothing new in this version is related to stability improvement...)
Would you have an idea why I have no sound from this particular project ?

A couple of things to try.

Double check the effect chain on the master bus (assuming you use a master bus) and make sure none of the volume or gain settings have been taken to zero. Delete and recreate the master bus.

OK thanks, but nothing works ! I have the feeling that I cannot read anymore this project and there is something deeper in the system which is wrong !
Does the idea of recovering a system restore point is good ? Or by doing that, is there a risk of further destabilizing the system ??

The e patch is the best version and will solve many issues.

Is the problem only with Sampletank?
Aside from X3e are the machine OS and drivers current?
This may be the tipping point to move to X3e rather than regressing to a previous state.

X3d works very well, but X3e is better. Maybe try this:

Set a new system restore point and update to X3e. Also, update SampleTank 3 to the latest version. There are often little bug fixes or improvements in an update that are not listed "officially" by the manufacturer.

Re-boot, re-scan/reset to make sure you pick up the new version of SampleTank, then see if this fixes the problem. If not, revert to before the new system restore point.

Thank you very much for your advise !
I have no particular problem with my VSTi (except sometimes some little bugs) BUT Sampletank 3 crashed systematically Sonar, and in a "vicious" manner   because it is only after about quarter of an hour that Sonar stops. Nevertheless, I could re open the projects, but this time, it is more serious ! (I made a support ticket to IK).

Craig, sorry for my ignorance, but  reverting to a system restore point could not cause trouble in the system ?

System Restore is actually quite benign. It does not alter data, only the system, and is reversible. You can also see what will be affected by a system restore. For example if you installed a program and your restore point is before installing that program, the program will be uninstalled. But, System Restore will tell you the program will be affected by a system restore.

I set a System Restore point before doing any kind of installation that affects the system. Many programs do that automatically. The worst problem I've ever had is that sometimes, system restore can't restore the computer to its previous state. However all this means is nothing has been changed.
