Hello there.
First, you should know that I'm blind and therefore forced to use Sonar 8.5, last version to have been adapted for us.

I'm faced with a challenging problem which I never came across before. The plug-in in question is called Altiverb 7,  it's great! It is VST 2 and 3 compatible.
I only started using Altiverb 7 inside my projects
very recently as I was testing it before.
The easiest way for me to use plug-ins in there is to create presets not in the plug-in's window, Which is not always accessible to Blind users, but in Sonar's preset
window itself. It usually works.
With Altiverb 7, it does work too, which means that when I called preset from this window it loads and I can hear it. But even if I save the project with
one of these presets, close sonar and Launch it again with what I just saved, Altiverb 7 will go back to its default settings.
Can you help ?

I don't know about Altiverb but what I've noticed is even when Sonar DOES remember a plug-in preset, the name in the window says nothing, 'no preset', or 'default', which is misleading. I would like to see this fixed to having the preset name retained in the window. 
 
Why? Because I create a lot of presets for future use and sometimes I don't remember which preset I chose. I often have to flip through them to find the one I selected.

As I mentioned earlier, I'm using an obsolete version of sonar, (8.5,) because I'm blind and this version is never going to be updated anyway. I'm looking for a way to know if the guilty is this particular plug-in or sonar itself. I would think it is the plug-in because it is the only one that behaves this way.
Furthermore, sonar might be confused with the fact that I was using a previous version of this plug-in before. When I installed the new version, I was getting all the previous versions presets. I had to tweak the registry base to get rid of them but maybe this was not enough.
Would there be a way to let Sonar forget everything it knew about my different versions of Altiverb and then give it fresh information, maybe that would cure the problem, I don't know ...

Wiping the drive clean and installing only what you want would be a sure bet to see.

must be plugin specific, i just did a quick test in 8.5 x64 with audio damage automaton, and the preset name was correctly displayed after closing and re-loading the project

Specifically all the Sonitus effects, BREVERB, Perfect Space and more I'm sure. They have never displayed the preset name upon reopening a project. Instruments don't seem to be affected.

I'm sure you've thought of this, but since you seem to be OK with editing the registry, why not uninstall all the Altiverbs you have, delete all references to them in the registry, then reinstall the version you want to use? Seems better than wiping the whole drive, Windows and all. (I don't think this will fix the problem, but it's something to try.)
 
Also, that is some expensive reverberation. For the money there ought to be someone at AudioEase who can help you do this.
 
PS: Great to hear someone has adapted Sonar for low vision. Who was it?

Yes, I might try what you said in the end. I'm not really a computer expert, and  last time I had to tweak the registry, I was helped by a friendly guy from cakewalk's support team. Fortunately I have all of that stored in an email and we'll be able to follow the same procedure.
But it's no fun, and I will only do it if I don't find another solution.

Regarding Sonar's adaptation for, no vision at all, there are two solutions available, one is free , (JSonar), and the one I use is called CakeTalking and is sold by a company called dancing dots. Unfortunately, both stopped at version 8.5 as far as I know.
Developing for screen readers is a hard job as Braille displays or speech synthesisers can only deal with text, which means that all these fancy little icons you see on your screen have to be translated into something speakable or readable in Braille, and also, the mouse is not the best tool for blind users and everything you  usually do with a mouse is much more easily done by keyboard commands.
