I am new to Sonar X3 Producer and, actually, new to using DAWs. I am having a problem getting the volume controls to work in midi tracks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am trying to have the volume on each track variable through the entire composition and not having any luck getting the the control to work at all. When I initially slide it down it does lower the volume but then goes right back to the original volume without moving the slider...???

Thanks

Welcome to the forum HMKirk.

Automation is the answer to your question. Simply use the edit filter to show automation lanes and make sure the automation write is enabled then automate the volume fader as you want. After you are done enable automation read. You may need to select from a menu what it is you wish to automate.

Thanks John!
Sorry nut I'm so new to all of this - where can I find this "edit filter" you wrote about and where can I get more info regarding automation lanes?

Thanks!
Mark

The X2 Automation Lanes video is still relevant. It is on this page CakeTV page http://www.cakewalk.com/CakeTV/SONAR-University/Get-Started

Here is a link to the manual. http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013322/SONAR-X3-Reference-User-and-Quick-Start-Guides

On each track is what we call the track header. This is where all the widgets are for a track. Under the number  toward the bottom is a widget for showing automation lanes. there two there one is for take lanes and the next is for automation lanes. By clicking on this it will default to level or MIDI volume in a new lane below the MIDI track. In the edit filter you can select what parameter you want to automate.
