I tried something different tonight. With several rounds of tweeks in the mix, adjusting the highs, lows, track levels and several cd's later..... I exported to a wave file @ 64 bits and then copied the file to a flash drive and dumped it into my other computer with iTunes and then onto my phone for listening via headphones and it sounds a heck of a lot better. I think I'm on to something here.

Also, beware of ported speakers for mixing, as they can sometimes cause weird low-frequency ringing after-tones, and artificially enhanced low-end frequencies - making for a mix that doesn't sound right in other environments.
 
In any case, taking your mix to different listening environments will help you come up with something that is a good compromise.  Just do what you can with what you have - don't over treat with acoustic treatment, and watch out for lopsided placement of speakers and for crazy reflective surfaces.
 
I think sometimes engineers gray up about as fast as presidents :)

You need to get over having to use CD's. There's no reason anymore. Everything should go to a USB stick and then upload to a web site like sound clicks.
 If you car doesn't have one, change it to a system that has USB input,, it's about $75 from Canadian Tire round here for a Pioneer car system with USB . 
In my kitchen I have a Getto blaster with USB input too. Nice plastic sound! 
My home stereo is driven by a computer so once again USB. 
 
I also post the songs to Sound Click/ Sound Cloud and get opinions from friends and here on the song forum. Lots of this is where others are using other studio set ups and what not,  so your getting super wide coverage of systems when you use the internet. You can stream your song on any device, no need for iTurds. No need to transfer. 

studio monitor headphones (like the around $100 Sennheiser 280pro) and not too loud tell the truth....
 
other idea would be to load a reference song into your Sonar file, route it directly to your sound card.
(if you have a favorite CD that sounds well balanced, try that one)
Get the CD equally loud to your mix (probably you'll be turning down the CD volume)
Then you can directly compare your mix to the CD song, and you know where you are...
