This issue I'm having has been reoccurring since past versions of Sonar.
 
 
Current recording volume playback super quiet when recording.

I've recorded a rhythm guitar track and am trying to record some lead guitar on a separate track to accompany the previous rhythm guitar.
The playback volume for the rhythm track is normal and the lead I'm trying to play is super quiet even though the settings are the same as the rhythm.
Is it some kind of recording setting I'm doing wrong.
 
Here's an example.
 
Recorded rhythm track.
Want to play rhythm track while recording lead track.
Rhythm track plays back at normal volume but lead is way too quiet.
I want to be able to hear the lead coming through the speakers too as I'm playing.
 
So far the only way to do this is to crank the volume of the lead and turn up the input sensitivity, which makes for a bad sounding recording.
 
It's almost like the lead is ducking when the rhythm track is played, which I don't want.
 
Anyone else experience this kind of problem?

 Are you using on board sound or a 32 channel audio interface? 
There is a simple solution, but first we need to have  some sort of clues  here. 
Please list your gear and how your using it. This is not a software issue but a hardware monitoring set up issue I would guess. but I can only guess.. :) 

+1 wanting to know what audio interface you're using.

If you're not using the onboard audio you could check your user manual if your audio interface have something called direct monitoring, or similar. Just search for 'monitoring' and you should find it.

It could be something as easy as a hardware knob (routing the signal you're trying to record directly to the output) set to the wrong value, or a mixer setting in the software you got with your audio interface.

My interface has a total reset function that helps me get a clean slate when I can't understand behavior.

I think it could be a little simpler than that.  You can lower yourr  rhythm guitar track fader so that it balances with the lead track going in and then record.  My guess is that you have some gain staging going on inside of Sonar that is boosting his Rhythm track on playback.
 
But it would be helpful to know what your set up is so we can help you understand how to set things up properly.

Sonar does not affect the volume the live signal being recorded. This is done with everything before it reaches sonar. all you need to do is adjust your monitoring chain accordingly.

Thanks for your opinions and eagerness to help me with this issue.
I am using an Edirol UA-25 USB audio capture box which I plug my guitar into for recording.
That is pretty much all I'm using. The only thing that came with the Edirol was the driver which I assume is working alright since I'm getting sound through.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit.

Just googled some images of your interface.

Have you tried fiddling with the "direct monitor" knob, I mentioned in my previous msg, next to the phones out on your interface?

This may be far too obvious but does the lead guitar sound quiet also when you're not recording but just playing through the PC? Could it be you've accidentally switched from "Hi-Z" input mode to "Mic"?
