  • What features/Plugins In Sonar Do You Find Yourself Using Less Despite Liking (p.2)

Yea, it is a strange but interesting question.  I'm w/ Karyn, all these FX and yet the PC is mostly used.

But it is important to know more features/toys than you will ever use regularly, which is at the heart of the "poorly worded question."  There are a lot of things I know I can do in SONAR that I haven't tried yet.  And often I'll work around rather than get out the (virtual) manual and find the supplied method.  But I am in a hurry.  And seldom do I find the time to go back and figure it out.  And next month, or year, I"m back and curse myself since I didn't work on doing the easy method.

Horses for courses.

Avoiding using my track templates makes me rethink a lot of things.

convenience is still king?

I understand the point of the question, and there's an easy answer for me: Addictive Drums. It's great, sounds wonderful, and is highly editable, but I use the Discrete Drums loop libraries because they're so well-recorded and it's sooo easy just to drop in an audio loop and start playing. That said...I plan to dig more into AD, and I expect that after a week I'll kick myself for not doing so sooner.

It is never my intention to be mean but I do like to poke humor. With a title like that, it was to easy. ;-)

I think what your saying is as your ears become more in tune, your hear things more, and sometimes less, easily and realize how different things work in different situations. I should have said this earlier but nobody's perfect.

Speak for yourself!

I swear! People who think they know it all really annoy those of us who do.

Deleted.  I misread the question.  The OP was asking for things native to Sonar.

Jimminy Cricket in a bikini* ..I expect you to fix this not being perfect thing within the next hour ;)

I knew when I posted it that the wording might cause confusion. My intent was to spur discussion about underused features. Someone did sum up part of it very succintly by proclaiming convenience is king. I don't touch many of the nomad plugs because I tend to go to pro channel first. Whenever I do use nomad plugs I like results. Maybe I should just make more templates and screensets with some of these features.

craig, I have not used anything but geist for drums in months although I have nothing but good things to say about AD. Funny how that works. After reading your post I just found the right sound and feel for a project using AD. I think I'm going to watch the groove 3 vids for AD and really dig in.

I find that more often than not, I tend to hang on to using techniques I had learned from who knows where from way back when, despite there being better newer ways of doing things.  It's just easier (and I am lazy).

BUT, today is my BIRTHDAY, (55), and I have given a present to myself of ACTUALLY blocking out time to learn the new stuff, AND to - are you ready? - USE the new stuff.

YUP, I'm a gunna dewit.

I have had ProChannel cheerfully waiting for me to actually do something productive with it, since its birth, as I have always just loaded effects up into the FX bins.

Well, TODAY, I'm going all in - I'm talking reading documentation, watching videos, and get this - PLAYING WITH IT.  (Plus, I bought some new effects that seem to work in PC, so that is also motivation)

Wahoo! (I got either goose bumps, or liver spots, or maybe shingles - can't tell), but I'm doing it!

Thanks, Dub - as silly as it might sound, I am not going to let lethargy and laziness get the best of me. :)
