Hi all,
I have been with Cakewalk since Sonar 4. My last upgrade being X1 Producer.
My Motu 2408 went out on me a few years ago. Had a lot going on then with business and health so I didn't fix it and got away from recording for a while.....Not good but life happens.

I recently retired and am again pouring myself into music full time. I  found out recently to my disappointment Gibson dumped Cakewalk so I went with other DAW's. Now that it looks like things may be rolling again with Cakewalk I have two questions I'm hoping someone has insight on.

Does Cakewalk still offer an upgrade path to the current version of Producer or I'm  guessing it is called Platinum now?
If they do not, do the lighter versions have VST support and or are able to see my instruments from X1 Producer as I already own much of the content the current flagship version has.
I am currently downloading a lighter version demo but sometimes all the features are not available in the demo so I hope someone has knowledge of this...
Thanks

Hi. There will be news about this in a few weeks. No one knows as of now.
Cakewalk has always had Vst support in all their versions (I believe) since SONAR 3 or 4 (IIRC).
Just have to have some patience.
All the best.

thanks Zargg,

Just pulled Artist up and so far it looks like it has imported all my instruments and files from X1 producer so that is good news.....unfortunately my audio crashes every 10-15 seconds .
Most likely not related to Sonar as " Reason 10 " does the same.
Weird because I have not experienced this at all with Samplitude prox3 nor with Reaper....yet

Hopefully its just background programs glitching things up. A hunting I will go.

I could not find in the version comparison chart whether VST support was offered with the lighter versions of Sonar.
For instance Studio 1 does not offer it in their 100 dollar version. So I downloaded Sonar Artist  to see. Glad it does have it.
I don't expect anything because understandably the new owners have no obligation to do this but an upgrade path would be great in view of the fact X1 support is long gone.

The demos on the Cakewalk website are no longer available for sale. The BandLab software based on SONAR should be available soon. For years, all Cakewalk DAWs have supported VST2 and more recently VST3. There is no reason to suspect this will change with BandLab but the product(s) have not been officially announced.

Thanks Scook,
I did not know that....as some distributers still sell Sonar. Must be offering the last of the old stock.
Thanks for the heads up.
