I have a client who wants audio put onto a short video. I have been trying to get the video to load into X2 for about a week, with no luck. I know that Sonar does not load the video, but hosts it. I receive the video in Dropbox in a .wmv file, so it naturally opens in Windows Media Player. When I create a new Sonar project and drag the file into the video clips area, I get a few clips and the accompanying audio,---but no video. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Chuck

Did you try importing the video? I assume the option exists in X2. In 8.5 importing is the way the manual advices you to do.

I think X2 was pretty dodgy with video.  From what I understand, a lot of improvements were made in X3e in how Sonar handles video.

I'd try Kalle's advice above.

If importing the video doesn't work check Sonar's help; I would but I'm not at my music computer right now.  I believe Sonar will only import certain video formats and wmv may not be one of them.  You may need to DL a video format converter to import the video.

Good luck.

Plenty of advice given on the forum if you search for "Sonar and Video"

As above have suggested, File-Import Video.

Make sure you have some codecs on your machine, Klite are a good way to start on the myriad that are codec issues.

Quicktime Pro is a good and cheap and efficient way of converting video, as is Windows Movie maker.

DONT try and export video from Sonar and especially X2, export the audio and re sync the audio and video in QT pro or Movie maker and then export from there. Sonar is a DAW.

X3 with the new engine hasn't done me any favours, I just switched back to the old one.

X2 ran fine for me with video.

I use Vegas!! Best video editing software in business, just finish a rough master of the song then bounce and line everything up in Vegas.

I would say Premiere is better but thats a whole other argument.

Sure apples and oranges lol, I find Vegas to be very similar to Sonar in GUI and workflow, hence my love.  I'm not sure about the quality of effects or stability between the two but for straight editing I do enjoy Vegas, oh and I have used Vegas since it was Sonic Foundry so since 2000.  I've used Final Cut too, gosh that was a nightmare.
