  • Take Lanes Comping Bug?

I have now seen this in at least 3 separate projects and am now just noticing when it happens.

I have recorded several takes in a track and I have selected the portions of the takes I want. I am then moving the transitions to be between notes. I then notice at the next transition point there has been a gap created.  It is as if moving the transition is moving the clip or the next transition but only partly.  See the images.

I am moving the transitions with the smart tool when it turns to the transition icon. I have tried deselecting everything before moving, locking the position and data of the following clip and it doesn't seem to help.  Has anyone seen this or have a work around?
This does not happen on every transition only what seems to be a random sampling of them.

Thanks

Can't say I've seen that before...

Make sure that the cursor is in the lower half of the clip when moving split points or the fade. If it's in the upper half you'll either slip edit/fade edit or move the clip if in the header region.

That's all I can think of that might cause that, other than a bug of course.

Thanks for the response. I am definitely clicking in the middle to bottom part of the clip. The cursor turns to a crossfade icon.

There's something else going on because it appears there are additional splits being created. But I'm confused...you say you use the Smart tool when it turns into the transition icon (I assume you mean crossfade?) but then you say it turns into a slip edit icon. The slip edit icon will do what's shown in the "after" image, so I'm unclear as to when the cursor stops looking like the crossfade and starts looking like the slip edit.

Also remember two clips cannot overlap in the same take lane. If you move one so it overlaps the other then move the first one back, whatever portion was overlapped on the other clip will be gone.

Craig, Sorry my bad. I meant a crossfade icon. I have fixed my error.

Maybe I will have to make a short video to show what happens. I will have to see if it happens right off the bat with a new project or if it is only after I add a few tracks with takes in them.  If I can reproduce it I will turn in a bug report.

We need a 'dumbing' Smart Tool checkbox dialogue in Prefs. Some tools in the Smart Tool arsenal we may not need and the Smart Tool can become self-defeating in tight projects. For example, I may never need the Cross-fade tool in the Smart Tool arsenal.

That's easy! Just have the Smart Tool watch network television for one week straight. That will dumb it way down.

I thought maybe it was a good idea.

You can kind of make it dumb by just selecting the tool you want rather then using the smart tool.  I tried that as work around to my problem mentioned in this thread but it did the same thing.

I was not able to reproduce my "bug" with a new project.  It must be some state that the project or audio data gets in.  I am going to reduce my project down to the bare minimum to reproduce the issue and submit it.
