Disabling all the MIDI outputs (UA-25ex, Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth and any others) in Preferences > MIDI > Devices will automatically add TTS-1 when opening a MIDI file making the file ready to play.

When 57Gregy says MIDI keyboard he means a synth capable of producing audio, not a MIDI keyboard for playing input.

MIDI is just data that is used to produce audio via a synth. If MS Wavetable is your "synth" then it will produce output until you try and use audio in a project at which point Sonar locks MS Wavetable out. Result = no MIDI playback.

Using TTS-1 is an answer. Have a look at this video on my youtube page covering basic MIDI that may help you understand the process

Just like to thank everyone for the help. Things are working and back in order. Using TTS-1 was the answer ... and a better understanding at my end. I'll be back with more questions ... but for now ... I'm content. Forum comes thru again !!!
