  • How to record each AD2 drum to individual tracks

I downloaded a midi template from Sonar and it's great it maps out AD2 to each channel and everything is set up and looks good but when I drag my pattern from AD2 to the timeline it only shows on channel 15 which is also the only channel that has a record button. How can I get all the tracks to show up as individual so I can have complete control of each individual drum ?

What you described is the way it's should be. The separate audio tracks are created when you bounce the MIDI to audio (if you use certain settings). Allthough, the bouncing is not necessary, you can keep the whole thing MIDI 'till exporting of the final project, if your PC can handle the load.

Having all MIDI on one track and audio output on separate tracks per kitpiece is the easiest way (think about editing a drum break if every hit is on a different track). I know that there are a few, who operate with MIDI split over several tracks, but it's not very common. For me it's out of the question.

You do have complete control on every kitpiece in this workflow. In piano roll you can select, say, only snare notes and edit their MIDI features, and on the audio output tracks you can put different FX and EQ on each kitpiece (in case the FX of AD2 are not enough for you).

I'm not sure what your asking either.

Do you want control over each drum as midi? You can use the "split notes to tracks" CAL file to do this. I use this as I want to be able to set each drum's volumes via mide.

If you want each kit piece to be on it's own track, make sure you click the down arrow below each fader and select the middle option. The lowest option uses individual and main outs together. I tried that but to me it sounded weird so I don't use that one. You will then need to create enough audio tracks to handle each individual out. The ins for AD2's outs can vary. I only use 13. One track for each out. The individual pieces only need mono tracks. The room, overheads and FX outs will need stereo. For those though it's a choice. You can either use 2 mono and pan them, one stereo or both. It's a matter of taste though.

Ok thanks for those replies and very helpful. I think I'm just confused thinking the midi would show up in each individual track on it's own not realizing it's just a midi file. I saw a video and now that I think about it it was audio tracks that were showing up so let me try to bounce them down as audio.
