It was copying over a few hundred MB of song and then a few GB of the whole track. I hope you believe me. I don't know why or how. I do know that closing the project and re-opening I was then able to copy the stuff. Maybe I'll try to make a video to demonstrate the issue so that someone at Cakewalk can decide if it's user error or something worth fixing.
