Hello.  I had to redo my DAW software environment, and so have today installed Sonar X2.

Can I move the audio plug-ins installed by default into the "Cakewalk/Shared Plug-in" folder into my dedicated plug-in folder?  If possible, I would like to keep all audio plug-ins in one location - this helps me stay organized.

Thanks

Oh - and same question with the folder "Cakewalk/Shared DXi": can I move these to my dedicated audio plug-in folder?

Not a good idea. These are DirectX plug-ins which are added to the registry during the installation process using regsvr32. If you want to experiment with relocating DirectX plug-ins you will need to re-register the plug-ins using regsvr32. Anytime the plug-ins are updated or another version of SONAR is installed the plug-ins will be installed their standard directories.

The same goes for the VST plug-ins in "Shared Utilities\Internal". Relocate them at your peril.

OK.  I guess I will maintain the default locations.

Thanks for the helpful reply.

Now I have to go the X2a update.

Follow-up question: do I need to name the Cakewalk/Shared Plug-in and Cakewalk/Shared DXi when I use the Preferences/VST Scan Folder(s) app - or does Sonar scan these folders automatically?

DirectX plug-ins are registered a different way and are not part of the VST scan process. Do not put the directories in the VST scan path (unless you have added VST plug-ins in the directories, which is not a good idea).
