  • Can undocked console view not be always on top? - Solved (p.2)

As lawp says above -  (I'm on Windows 7) and I've always used the Ctrl-TAB windows key command to toggle between Track View and Console View . . . works great,

Doesn't work on my install.  Console view stays on top.  Always.  Aargh!

My old computer had X3 installed on previous installs of X1 and before that 8.5.  I kept the previous settings on each install, so I'm wondering if the windows behavior I liked was actually something that came from X1 or 8.5?  Still there's gotta be a way of reinstituting in in X3?

Hi Ian . . . I have this saved as part of my "Normal" template, so it always comes up working like I want.

If I load another template where it is not set up (eg. 16 track audio template), the way I can get it to work is by first undocking everything, get both TV and CV windows into the maximized position, then click top left of console window - and select "disable floating", then maximize CV again, then the key command Ctrl-TAB works.
Hope this helps.

noynekker - I've got everything undocked.  If I'm reading you correctly this is the icon I should click on to select "disable floating".  Problem is, "disable floating" isn't there.

Thanks for trying to help me thru this!

Peace,

Ian

The picture shows the console in the multidock. Undock the console by right-clicking on the console tab and selecting undock or click-drag the console tab out of the multidock (step one in my instructions above). This will float the console. The floating console will have an icon in the upper left.

You may have confused undocking the multidock with undocking the console view from the mutlidock. There is no need to undock the mutlidock.

When you click the icon top left of an undocked window you don't see "disable floating" ?  hmmm
The icon in your screenshot does look different that mine.
Mine is the same as in the Sonar PDF manual (page 1147) . . . so I've no idea why you wouldn't see it.
Anyone else ?

Edit . . . yes I think scook has it, above, undock the console from the multidock

Thanks guys,

Yeah, I don't have that little colorful icon from p1147- couldn't get it to show up on a new project either.

scook - With EVERYTHING floating this is what I have.

All the views are floating but the Console view still says multidock.  I'm getting the vibe that Sonar may not have installed properly? --- Weird.

Everything looks fine in all the illustrations. There is nothing wrong with the installation. You are still floating the multidock. Don't float the multidock, float the console view.
  1. Dock the mutlidock back to the top or bottom of the main screen
  2. Right-click the console tab. In the pictures, the tab says "Console" with an X to the right.
  3. Select undock in the console tab options. This creates a floating console. This is not the same as clicking the down arrow on the bottom right of the multidock (this floats the multidock).
  4. The floating console has the icon you are looking for.

To see how to undock the console view from the multidock look at the "X2 Multidock" video around 2:22. The video shows how to click a tab and undock a view from the multidock. The video is here http://www.cakewalk.com/CakeTV/SONAR-University/Get-Started

That works.  Wow - and what's really weird is that when I undock the console view, it's floating. Kinda confusing if you ask me.   But it works.   Thanks .  You talked me thru it.  Thanks so much!

Peace,

Ian
