  • Not All Tracks Included in Audio Export

Although I can play back this project and hear all the tracks, the "RhythmKeys" track's audio does not get exported when I select everything and export the project audio.  I'm using a plugin called 'Cthulhu' which is a chord generator/arpeggiator.  The only way I'm able to get it to work is to create my MIDI clips in a MIDI track, feed that out to Cthulhu using a virtual MIDI cable, then feed the MIDI output of Cthulhu to the RhythmKeys track (U-he Ace VSTi).  When exporting, I select everything and export audio as I usually do:

Again, when I play the project back, I hear everything, including the ACE VSTi track-- but after export, when I play back the exported audio, I hear everything BUT the ACE track.  Can someone help me figure this out?

Thanks!
Bryan

, try that..

Yeah, I actually tried that at one point (it's how I usually do it), but it didn't work.  That's when I tried doing a 'Select All' just to see if that made a difference.

Thanks!

When using an external route to a MIDI plugin/keyboard, a fast bounce will not work. Try disabling fast bounce, so that the "external" audio can be generated and looped back into SONAR.

Yeah, that didn't work either, unfortunately. :(

Thanks!

Hmmm, does freezing work?

Ahhhh, that's a good idea.  I'll give it a go and report back.

Thanks!

OK, so I wasn't able to freeze the VSTi, either-- apparently the issue is that since this track has no MIDI clips on it (but is fed MIDI from another track), Sonar doesn't see it as a 'freezable' track.

BUT-- what I did (and don't know why I didn't think of this before), is set the VSTi track to record and record the incoming MIDI data as a MIDI clip.  Now I should be able to just mute the MIDI track and Cthulhu MIDI VSTi track, and use the recorded MIDI on the ACE track instead.

It's still a workaround, though-- I could swear I've fed VSTi's with MIDI from other tracks before and not had this issue.  And why audio from the VSTi (ACE) that is clearly passing through the Master bus isn't exported when you export the project audio just seems weird to me.

Anyway, thanks for your help, everyone, and if anyone has anything else to add, please share!

Unless the MIDI track is used for something else, there is no need to use a virtual MIDI cable and a separate MIDI track to drive Cthulhu. Cthulhu is using an instrument track which should be able to read the MIDI clips. Move the clips into the Cthulhu track.

One other unrelated note, the original image has dither is set to triangular for a 32bit export. This is probably not necessary. Set dither to none.

I've been struggling with Cthulhu for a while now, and the only way I could get it to work in Cakewalk is drive it with a separate MIDI track; MIDI clips on the same track as Cthulhu don't seem to get processed by Cthulhu, but are just passed to its corresponding VSTi.
